I don't like vampires or incubi and refuse to read books about them, but, of course, Rachel has to make me eat my words. So annoying. And also, so good!

But mostly, oh my word, what fantastic characters! Talia is a good Jewish girl who is also a tattoo artist. My first thought was, her mom is going

to hate this. Well, that is an understatement. It also makes conversations with her mom the most entertaining thing I've read all year. That reason alone is worth reading the book for. Trust me.

Then there is the fantasy world. This is the first book Rachel has written that takes place partially in another world, but you wouldn't know it. The descriptions for the scenery and the fantasy races that show up are incredible. Also, I've never seen sirens and mermaids in the same story - and neither is quite what you would expect.

The love story is surprisingly sweet, considering the amount of steam (and if you prefer no steam in your stories, you will probably want to avoid this one, but also Google "incubus" and explain in the comments how they can be written without steam). Also, the steam fit the story and didn't feel at all gratuitous, which I appreciate. But all that aside, Talia and Zayn are simply lovely beings.

The book deals with issues of bodily autonomy and lack thereof in a way that I haven't seen done before. While that might be a trigger warning for some, I found it refreshing. No one should take from another what is not freely given.

I know I'm biased, because I edited the book and I really like Rachel, but I thought the book was amazing and highly recommend it.
