This is a strange and humourous sort of visual puzzle, a pop-up cardboard house with scenes from famous paintings and sculptures juxtaposed throughout the house. "Botticelli's Venus is singing in the shower. Michelangelo's David is brushing his teeth. Mona Lisa is in the kitchen. Whistler's Mother

is warming herself by the fire..." A guidebook helps spot the 56 references to well-known art masterpieces in this 10-room house. An amusing novelty for art lovers.

Local notes

Fifty-six great artworks are scattered through the ten old, sometimes haunted, rooms of this delightful pop-up creation, Botticelli's Bed & Breakfast. The Honeymoon Suite is occupied by the Arnolfinis (Vermeer's young bride and groom), while Vermeer himself can be found painting in Van Gogh's attic upstairs. Whistler's mother sits in the library in front of the TV, watching the Da Vinci Fitness Training program, while Michelangelo's David, dressed in skivvies, brushes his teeth in the bathroom. Pull-out tabs, secret doors, and underground hideaways add to the whimsy and wit of Pienkowski's inventiveness.

Just delightful. Shona's art book, of which I finally found my own copy!

Sadly missing the guidebook tho :(
