Really enjoyed this story and tried to get my 3rd grade son to read it. I think it's great for boys or girls. A really fun, suspensful, cute chapter book. I'm hoping he'll still give it a chance. I loved it.

Local notes

The town of Ashby Waters has been taken over by the Black Duke who forces the people to work in his grommet factory. Fun, singing, happiness, gardens and even sweets are banned in this new order. When a dragon appears in the town Captain Zouche and his offsider, Miss Moldavia, are informed that the only way to destroy a dragon is to enlist the help of the Quench family, the last surviving member of which is Ursula Quench. Zouche and Moldavia set out to force Ursula to rid the town of its dragon, only to find her granddaughter, Lily, mourning the death of her grandmother.
