A childhood fantasy come true. It starts with a friendly tiger coming to visit young Sophie's house and eating up all the food and "drinking all the drink" , and Sophie eating dinner out with her parents in her pajamas. What could be better? The illustrations are endearing. I loved this boook as a

child and still carry around a copy.

Charming story of British hospitality--a tiger comes to tea and has not only tea but everything else in the house! At the end, the father suggests the family go out to supper at a cafe, so even though bereft of all their food, the family has a jolly time. I would recommend this lovely picture book

to ages 2-8.

In contrast to Mog the forgetful cat, Kerr's other character, who's a bit of a sad sack, this tiger brings to tea some panache, like he's the kind of guy who'd come to your party and walk out in a bathrobe playing a saxophone, and I like that.

What a wonderful book this is! A tiger comes to tea and eats and drinks EVERYTHING. It's right up there on my list along with Anna Karenin

I have always loved this book... and today the impulse just came over me and I had to buy it!

This is lovely, simple story for preschoolers. Parents, be prepared to read it again and again and again... Tiger's stripes are fuzzy, which will likely be a reason your child will love the story.

My mom bought us this book. It is so boring! And so upper middle class. It is described by others as a timeless classic but I hate it. My 2 year old will listen to it but she has never requested to read it so it mainly lives on a shelf until mom comes to see us.

"The Tiger Who Came to Tea" is a story about a little girl getting ready to have tea with her mummy when the doorbell rings. When opening the door, they see a tiger who wants to join them for tea. The tiger eats and drinks all of the food and drink in the house leaving them with no food for supper

and no tap water to bathe. The book instills lessons such that her parents can be depended on and that good can come out of bad.

Sophie and her mummy are just sitting down to tea in this classic British picture-book, when a Tiger knocks on the door and asks to join them. Sophie's mum invites him in, and his appetite proves formidable, leading him to eat everything in the house. With Sophie's daddy on the way home, what will

Originally published in 1968, The Tiger Who Came to Tea has the same gentle humor to be found in its creator's books about Mog, the forgetful cat. As a huge Mog fan, I've been meaning to pick this one up, and I'm glad I finally have! The artwork is charming - I liked the use of color, the juxtaposition of the realistic and fantastic, and the Tiger's immensely appealing smile - and the story entertaining. Subsequent stories about demanding tea guests - thinking here of titles like Tea Rex - clearly owe a debt to Kerr.

FANTASY: (primary & secondary)
This is a good example of a fantasy, because it involves a magic tiger, who comes over for tea. As typical for this world, the tiger has an enormous appetite, except for the strange fact that he keeps asking for more food, which would not occur, if the tiger was real.

It poses a problem that the characters in the book have to solve, since the tiger eats all their food and they have to go out for dinner.

Lovely old story, that feels even older

Classic story of an uninvited and unusual guest who shows up to tea very hungry. Illustrations are whimsical, perfect for the text.

Still don't understand how the tiger drank all the water in the house! But my goddaughter and her brother loved it, and so did I.
