Description

The life of Anne Frank, from birth until being taken from the hidden attic by the Nazis, is presented in this haunting, meticulously researched picture book. It is a compelling yet easy-to-understand "first" introduction to the Holocaust as witnessed by Anne and her family. The stunningly evocative illustrations by Angela Barrett are worth a thousand words in capturing for young Americans what it must have felt like to be Anne Frank, a spirited child caught in the maelstrom of World War II atrocities. A detailed timeline of important events in Europe and in the Frank family is included.

Depicts the life of Anne Frank as a young girl in Frankfurt, Germany and in Amsterdam, her experiences in school, her friends, and her life in hiding. The illustrations are beautiful and haunting - with intricate detail they show how Anne changes, grows and matures into a young woman.

Genre: Biography
Critique: This book is a great example of a biography because it is based on Anne Franks actual diary entries and her life during the Holocaust. It is based on real events and real first hand inmormation.

Josephine Poole tells the story of Anne Frank in this short biography. Even though it is short, it still conveys the horror of what happened to Anne in such a way that younger readers will mostly understand. The accompanying pictures show the dreariness of the time.

A biography about Anne Frank and how she hid from the Nazi's. Good for history.

A short biography of the life of Anne Frank, a young girl who's family hid from the Nazi's during the Holocaust. This book would be great to use when teaching students about the Holocaust or famous people in history.

Anne Frank was a German Jew that suffered for years in hiding from the Nazis. She was only a young girl when everything happened and her life ended tragically in a German camp. While hiding, she wrote everything about her life into a diary that was found after her annex was raided and ransacked.

The story of Anne Frank and the Holocaust, is powerful and needs to be told. This picture books, which tells her biography, begins with her birth, takes us through her life, and leaves us with her dairy, which she is remembered for. Not only is the historical facts presented in this text important,

but the way the author presented the facts was great. The reader is not overwhelmed with sadness and the facts of war. Also, this book makes a great tool to use for building vocabulary. The text used higher level vocabulary words throughout the pages, such as expressive and ruthlessly.

A very simple but realistic rendition on Anne Frank and her family's tragedy. A great read for any grade level. Her family's bravery and her thoughts give young students something to think about. Her story does no end well for her but she seemed to try to stay optimistic about what was happening.

This book is a good introduction to Anne Frank, who is one of the most well known figures from the Holocaust. It gives a good background to the events of Anne Frank's life, including her internment and death, but is not graphically violent, as some more adult books about the subject can be.

A well written story for elementary school aged children. Her story is told in a way that young children can understand. The illustration is very nice, and I enjoyed reading the book.

I love the story of Anne Frank. I love the illustrations in this book, and truly enjoyed reading the information. I found that the information shared in the book is very similar to a book I read as a child. This story is very touching, and makes you very thankful for the life that I live.

I really liked this biography of Anne Frank. One reason I really liked this book is because it offers a timeline of the actual events in the very back of the book, so after you have read it you can go back and have a visual time line of how things happened in Germany.

Another reason I really like
Show More
this book is because it is written honestly but not with all of the gruesome details. For example when they are explaining the wearing of the star and how the Jews were segregated it says, "Every Jew older than six was ordered to wear a big yellow star with Jood printed on it. Even small children could now be stopped from going into public places." This is a good way to explain what was happening without going into detail about concentration camps.

The main idea behind this book is to explain the life of Anne Frank.

The story of Anne Frank will never have a happy ending. However, I believe that this author did a good job at portraying Anne’s life in a way that could be understood and appreciated by children, because I know I enjoyed the craftsmanship of this particular biography. The language the author used
Show More
was so captivating throughout the entire story. When she compared Anne and Peter’s love to being “as sweet, and as fragile, as the flowers on the chestnut tree outside the window,” I got such a clear understanding of the state Anne Frank was in. The author’s language had a way of grabbing my attention, and keeping it for the entire story. The beautiful illustrations were dark, and nobody smiled, but they did a good job of giving off a certain mood that could make anybody feel gloomy. Another characteristic I liked about this book was the history portion. The author gave some background information about what was going on in Germany in this time period, to help the reader understand clearly. The main purpose of this book was to inform readers about the life of Anne Frank, and this author did a good job at getting the facts through while also drawing readers in emotionally.

This would be a good selection to preface The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank.

A picture book treatment of Anne Frank's life, in particular her time spent in the secret annex and the political tone of the day. An appropriate and solid introduction for children too young to read the Diary.

Illustrations: colored pencil. This book is about a little girl named Anne Frank and her family. Anne Frank writes in her diary during World War 2 because she is a Jew and needs to hide from the Nazis. Her dad creates a secret hideout for her and her family in an annex above his work space. They
Show More
manage to hide from the Nazis for some time, but eventually they get caught and sent to concentration camps. Her father is the only one out of their family to survive and a family friend collected the journal she had been writing in to share Anne Frank's story with the world. This book is a biography because it is real-life story about Anne Frank described by someone else. It describes the person’s surroundings and it provides examples that demonstrate the person’s behavior. Age appropriateness: middle and high school.
