Connie's review: Very short, very rhyme-y. Good for children learning to sound things out, or learning to speak, because there are only a few short sentences per page. It's a very calming story, too, so it works well for naptime. Because it features a birthday at the end, it's also a good gift for
Show More
a one or two year old child. Because it was printed in Britain some of the usages are odd to American ears, but nothing confusing - shop where we'd use store, that sort of thing. It's broadening to the young mind to hear different ways of speech.

Ana's review: I like Sheep in Shop a lot. My favorite part is the end because I love the cake and the birthday party. I like the whole book.

This book helps students if they are currently learning about rhythms. Teachers could read this to show what a rhythm is.

The sheep are trying to buy a birthday present. The go to the store and want to buy blue ribbon but they don't have enough money so they clip wool until they get enough money to buy hte ribbon. This book is done in colored pencil and in rhyming sentences so younger kids will find this book more
Show More
appealing. It can help them with their rhyming skills and also teach them it is important to work hard if you want something.

The sheep are in a shop to buy a Birthday gift. The sheep find the
perfect gift. Uh-oh, they do not have enough funds to buy the gift.
Instead of trying to buy a more cost effective gift, they sold their
prized possession, wool. I honestly thought they were going to sell their hats because I would
Show More
not want to sale my beautiful wool if I
was a sheep. I might get cold!

This book tells a entertaining rhyming story. The story is a good why
to teach children how to rhyme and some phonics sounds.

I enjoyed the way the illustrations are colored. The book looks like
a child(neatly) colored the pictures. If I was a child, I would be drawn
to the book because of the way it is colored. The book looks like a
coloring book. I only regret that the colors are not vivid.

Readers should look closely in the story. There is a cute little mouse
in the shop. Also notice how realistic the piggy bank apears.

The book teaches a lesson a important life lesson: Sometimes we have
to make scacrifice for the things we want in life(the sheep sold
their wool for a Birthday present).

Classroom Extension
1. The teacher can read the story and have the students to write a
list of the words they heard that rhyme

2. The students can write their own mini rhyming story.

Good Birthday or September read about sheep who go shopping. Okay art. Very short book.

This book is a good example of fantasy because it has sheep getting ready for a birthday party by shopping. It brings the reader into a world that is believable, yet impossible.
The plot of this book is very straightforward, however, there is an unpredictability that would keep younger readers
Show More
entertained. For its intended audience, it is a good plot because it is humorous and uncomplicated.

Summary:
A cute story about five sheep shopping for a birthday gift. They see what they want to buy and do not have enough money so they clip their wool to pay. They then enjoy the birthday party.

Personal Reaction:
I liked this book because it rhymes and also because the pictures are very nicely
Show More
colored and drawn.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. The kids can write down what other animals we use for clothes or hat we use some animals for.
2. Have the kids make up their own rhymes.

Sheep in a shop is a rhyming book with sheep shopping for a birthday present and finding many interesting things in the shop.
Good for a read aloud.

The book "The Sheep in a Shop" is oviously a fiction title which shows sheep that walk on two legs and celebrating birthdays. The sheep walk into a store to go looking for presents notice that while they're in the store they are communicating with a the store clerk, who is a "Pig". Sheeps don't
Show More
play with childrens toys or climb into trees either. At the end of the story you will notice them sitting around on a picnic sheep preparing themselves to eat a birthday cake, which you will never see a sheep do.

Summary: Five sheep take a shopping trip to store for a birthday.

Reaction: I wish I was a little kid again so I could really appreciate the colors and have the child mentality I used to.

Extension #1: I could ask the class what they do to celebrate their birthdays.

Extension #2: I could read it and
Show More
interact with the kids by asking them if they have done anything like the sheep in the story.

Sheep in a Shop is a short book for beginning readers. I enjoyed this book very much because it is a fun read and has elements that help young children practice new reading skills. One reason I enjoyed this book was for its rhyme scheme. Every line rhymes with the line before it, which helps young
Show More
children with phonics. For example, one page reads, “Sheep find rockets. Sheep find jackets full of pockets.” Another reason I enjoyed this book is due to its repetition. Every line in this book starts with the word “sheep.” By reading lines like “Sheep find blocks. Sheep wind clocks,” students can practice recognizing and reading the digraph “sh.” The main idea of this book is buying birthday presents. Throughout the book the sheep are trying to pick out the perfect birthday present for their fellow sheep. Overall these elements are perfect for beginning readers and the cute illustrations go well with the content.
