Creation 3950 (or 3949) BC. Scaliger proposed the Julian Period, a chronological system for absolute dating using a span of 7980 years (28 x 19 x 15--the length of the Julian calendar solar cycle, the lunar or metonic cycle, and the ancient Roman administrative indiction cycle). He set Year 1 of the Julian period at 4713 BC, 730 years prior to Creation--not a contradiction, as the Julian Period was a fictive mathematical construct.
