The Christian Doctrine of Slavery

Asserts unity of human race--all men from Adam, and have souls--but also affirms Hamitic curse pronounced by Noah. Slavery is degradation by God: first degree of slavery was the Fall, with Adam and his descendants condemned to sweat and labor; second degree is subjection to despotic government where sin has persisted for generations; third is personal slavery, of people who have degraded by long-continued operation of sin.
