Description

"Peril abounds as the witches of Qifrey's atelier continue their trials! In the depths of the Serpentback Cave, a brimmed cap casts its murky shadow upon Qifrey and his apprentices. The brimmed cap's dark magic has transformed Euini into a wild beast, and Coco, Tetia, and a critically injured Qifrey find themselves surrounded by the venomous stares of the cursed Romonons. In the face of doom, these witches must once again find a path to safety using their wits and their unique qualities, but will that be enough as they battle against a powerful new enemy who doesn't play by the rules?"--Provided by publisher.

Media reviews

Given that magic is dangerous and both council and Brimhats are grey hats, it’s astonishing that the author manages to provide as upbeat a narrative as she does. The students suffer disquieting revelations, disturbing consequences of well-meant magics, and repeated brushes with death … or

worse. Somehow, they manage to preserve their hopeful natures.

Still at the Serpenback Cave, Qifrey and his apprentices must face off against the brimmed caps’ that are terrorizing the group. One of them has transformed Euini into a wild beast using forbidden magic. These witches must once again find a path to safety using their unique skills and wits.

glad we got to see Richeh come to realize what she really needs to do in order to be the best witch she wants to be. It really makes you think about how much learning from others can do for you.

I’m also really loving brush buddy. That little creature’s facial expressions made me laugh so loudly when I’d see them. One of the best highlights of this volume in my opinion.

Still loving the concept of the magic and how to draw and spells. Coco’s outlook on this world is seeming to open the eyes of the other girls and they’re thinking of solutions they definitely wouldn’t have thought of without her.

Series Info/Source: This is the fifth book in the Witch Hat Atelier series. I bought a copy of this book.

Story (5/5): This continues the storyline started in Vol 4. Qifrey and his apprentices are journeying deep in Serpentback Cave when they find themselves surrounded by the cursed Romonons.

Qifrey is grievously wounded and Euini has been turned into a scale wolf; how will this group get free of both the Romonons and the Brimmed Caps and finally escape?

This was a very exciting and entertaining installment in this series. I love where the story is going and love all the new elements being brought into the story!

Characters (5/5): I love how supportive all the characters are of each other in this series. Euini is an interesting new character and I am curious to see what happens with him in future books. Coco continues to learn how to work with her fellow apprentices and all of them are growing and learning throughout the series.

Setting (5/5): Most of this volume takes place in Serpentback Cave which is a magical, mysterious, and creepy setting that I really enjoy. There is excellent world-building here and I love this fantasy world and all the interesting magic in it.

Writing/Drawing Style (5/5): This is incredibly well written and the drawing throughout is beautiful, intricate and just amazing. I continue to be very impressed by the quality of this series!

My Summary (5/5): Overall I loved this installment of Witch Hat Atelier just as much as previous installments. The illustration is stunning and I love the world-building, the amazing characters and magic too! This series is highly recommended to those who enjoy beautiful illustration paired with an exciting and magical fantasy story.

This series is at its best when the witch apprentices work together to overcome a dilemma. The teachers, not so much. And don't get me started on the dreadful chapter about a room full of bickering knights far removed from the action. Not looking forward to their return. At least it's nice to

finally get some names for the two brimmed cap villains who have been skulking around causing trouble since the start of the series.
