This is a traditional folk tale handed down by the people of Nigeria. Zomo is a trickster that must accomplish three tasks before he can get what he wants from the Sky god.

I liked this book because it is not like most traditional fantasy, There is a moral to the story but it is presented in a fun
Show More
and funny way unlike most tales that have as everpresent pall of evil following the hero or heroine.

A scavenger hunt done by teams of kids will give them an understanding of the quest and be fun.

Have the children come up with alternate endings of the story and discuss how those endings follow the pattern of traditional fantasy or don’t

Zomo the rabbit went to the sky god and asked the sky god to give him wisdom. He told Zomo he had to gather fish scales, bulls milk, and a leopards tooth in order to gain wisdom. The rabbit was very clever and gathered all the items. He returned the items to the sky god and gained wisdom in a

surprise way.

I did not have a good personal reaction to this book. I am not big on sky god, but otherwise the book was cute and had a clever ending.

Extension Ideas: I would use this book to introduce the African culture and its art work. The pictures in this book are a great representation of the colors one would see in Africa. I would have them make African hats and shirts, and use them in an African unit.

This book is a trickster tale from West Africa. Zomo the rabbit is on a quest for wisdom. Sky God gives Zomo three impossible tasks. In completion of these tasks Zomo learns three things are worth having: courage, good sense, and caution. He has all but caution and now he has wisdom. This book was
Show More
fun to read. The colors are bright and represent African culture. My favorite part is the ending where Sky God tells Zomo he “better run fast!” One classroom extension idea would involve learning about Africa and some of the traditional colors and patterns used in the illustrations. Another extension would be to teach the importance of relationships/friendships. The golden rule applies in this story; treat others as you want to be treated.

This book is humorously written with Zomo the Rabbit who would like to gain wisdom, has to gain that wisdom by completing three takes asked by the Sky God.

This book would be great for having my students work on making inferences to what is going to happen.

"Zomo the Rabbit" as told by Gerald McDermott is about a rabbit that wants wisdom. He goes to the Sun God and asks for wisdom, but the Sun God tells him he must earn it. The Sun God sends Zomo on a quest to get fish scales, milk from the wild cow, and a leopard's tooth.
I really enjoyed this tale
Show More
of Zomo the clever rabbit. It teaches children that to solve problems, sometimes you have to be very clever, and think things through to get what you need.
You could have the children make up their own story about how an animal got a certain trait. You could also use the book to have the students draw their favorite quest from the Sun God that the rabbit completed.

Zomo is a very tricky rabbit! He had such creative ways of getting the items that he needed for his wisdom. I loved the pictures in this book. The colors were very bold and vibrant, reminding me of Africa.

This is a trickster tale about a rabbit named Zomo who is on a quest for wisdom. The sky god told him that if he were to complete 3 impossible tasks he would grant Zomo wisdom. He made some enemies in his quest and learned to be cautious and run fast.

I love trickster tales and this one
Show More
inparticular struck my fancy. I love the mischevious characters in these stories and how the ending is leaves the character with what he is seeking but in a way that teaches him/her a lesson.

I could use this book in the classroom to give some insight into African culture. The pictures are beautiful and portray African artwork really well with the geometric patterns. I could have the students create finger puppets for all the characters in the book and use them to retell the story to their parents at home and right a reflection over how it went.

What I liked about this book was when the Sky God told Little rabbit " Three things in this world are worth having: courage, good sense, and caution you have lots of courage ,a lot of good sense, but no caution. Next time you see Big fish, Leopard, or Wild cow you better run. I think that was so
Show More
funny. Overall it was a really cute book.

This folktale is a story about Zomo the Rabbit who wanted wisdom, so he went to Sky God and asked him for it. Sky God said he must do impossible things: get the scales of Big Fish, the milk of Wild Cow and the tooth of Leopard. Zomo set off and tricked all of the animals, bringing back to Sky God
Show More
what was the impossible. Sky God told Zomo he had courage, a bit of sense but no caution and that Zomo better run fast from the angry animals. Zomo then had wisdom and was very fast.

This traditional story was appealing to me because as a young child, it was one of my favorite genres. The story teaches the need to find the balance in life in order to become wise. The illustrations were colorful and looked like traditional African art.

I would introduce this book to the class when teaching a unit on traditional stories from all over the world. This one being a West African tale, we would mark the place on a world map. Also, we would do a hands-on project by creating our own traditional African art.

Zomo asked the sky god for wisdom but he said Zomo had to complete 3 impossible tasks. As Zomo went to complete the tasks, he found ways to complete them all. He did so without thinking of the consequences. When he returned to the god, the god siad he now had wisdom but he better watch out for the
Show More
animals he had to take the items from to complete his tasks because they were very angry.

I like this book because it teaches you to think before you act, and I am still trying to teach my kids that concept. Also my kids always think because they cleaned their room fast it's done right but come to find out everything is just under the bed, and they have to clean it all over again.

In the classroom, we could make a list of goals we would like to achieve in our classroom. I could also come up with some special task to see how the kids will try to complete them (the hard waay or the easy way).

Zomo is a rabbit from Africa that askes the Sky God for wisdom and the Sjy God will not give it to him untill he completes certain tasks. The tasks are very simple yet complicated. Zomo had to accomplish the following, get the scales of Big fish the milk of a Wild Cow and the Tooth of Leopard. Zomo
Show More
finds a way to trick all three and get what he was told to get. When he returns to the Sky God and tells him that he has gotten all that he has asked for. the Sky God told him that the has had courage all along along with wisdom and much speed. This book has wonderful drawings from the African Culture and has many many details in the pictures.
This would be a good book for teachers to use when talking about different cultures and see what the class knows about Africa. Possibly the different animals that live there, the weather etc.

Zomo the Rabbit is an action packed tale from West Africa. It includes bright illustrations and action on every page. Kids will laugh and think the rabbit is very clever.

Summary:

Zomo the rabbit is very clever. He wanted wisdom and went to the sky god to ask for it. The sky god told him that he will give him wisdom but needs to complete three tasks in order to get wisdom. The sky god told him that he needs to get the scales from the big fish in the sea, milk of the
Show More
wild cow, and a tooth from the leporad. Zomo does so by tricking all the animals and isn't cautious at all, he tries to do it as fast as possible. As he returns to the sky god and gives him what he asks, the sky god was impressed, and gives him wisdom and speed; since he will have to run very fast from the fish, cow, and the leporad.

Personal Reaction:

I think this is a great book for teaching children how to think before doing anything. It shows that one needs to consider other people's feelings, not just themselves. I really like the illustrations and how Zomo tricked the animals and ran off to the next task.

Classroom Extension:

1. Teach kids on the importance of being patient and caring of others. I would use this as a cultural theme and talk about the traditions in Africa.
2. I would have the kids act out the charcters as if they were in that situation, what would they have done.

Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed this book and I think it has a good lesson to it. You don’t have to be strong, or big to get what you want but if you want something to happen and you work for it then it will happen.

Classroom extension ideas:
1. Before I read the story I am going to hide things in very tricky spots around the room. Then I am going to tell the students they have to find the items I have hidden and tell them it is impossible to find all the items on there list but who ever finds them first will get a prize. After doing this I am going to read them the story about the rabbit and let them try again.
2. I will have each of the students write down one thing they would work hard for if they new they would get it.

Brillantly written. Clever little story that shows you don't have to be big and fierce to win the game.

The illustrations are larger than life in this text and filled with vibrant, eye-catching colors. Zomo the rabbit desires wisdom and he must go on an impossible journey to get it, putting himself in harm's way. The moral of the story is to accept yourself as you are. Young children will enjoy the
Show More
large pictures and the adventurous tale. I would read this book as a read aloud to kindergarten or first grade students. This text can be used to discuss culture, art, and literary terms.

Summary:
A Rabbit wants to be blessed wisdom, even though he is pretty clever, so he asks the Sky God what he must do in order to be gifted with wisdom. Zomo the Rabbit must do the close to impossible to receive wisdom from the Sky God.

Personal Reaction:
I really enjoyed the story and the many
Show More
bright colors in the book. I love how witty the Rabbit was in trying to accomplish what he needed to do to receive wisdom from the Sun God. I would definitely read this book whenever a child needs to be cheered up.

Classroom Extensions:
1) I would use this book on Cultural day and all students can bring books that are from their many different cultures.
2) This could be used when about to begin science. Read to the students and encourage them to figure out how best to use the materials given to them in a science project.

This book is about a rabbit named Zomo. Zomo was very cleaver but, he wnted wisdom really bad. So he went to the Sky God and requested it. There were certain things Zomo would have to do before he could have wisdom. Zomo was brave enough to do so.

Personal Reflection:

I liked this book very much. I
Show More
think it does a good job of teaching "working for something you want". Not everything in life comes easy. This was a wonderful way to put it in the eyes of children I think.

Extentions:
1. I could use this when kids right down their goals for their school year/ future.
2. I could use it when I introduce following rules.

Summary: Zomo the Rabbit is a traditional literature tale from West Africa. Zomo is the main character in this tale. He is not big, he is not strong, but he is very clever. Zomo wants even more cleverness though, he wants wisdom. He goes to the Sky God to ask for wisdom and the Sky God gives Zomo
Show More
three impossible task to complete. If Zomo can complete these task the Sky God will give him wisdom. Zomo is able to complete all three task and when he returns the Sky God keeps his promise and gives Zomo wisdom.

Personal Summary: I like this tale of Zomo the Rabbit. I think it teaches children that it does not always matter what you look like or how strong you are as long as you are smart. I also like that it teaches children the concept of wisdom. I remember having a difficult time grasping the concept of wisdom as a child.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Go around the room and have students share with the class who they think is a wise person and what characteristics make that person wise.
2. Have students retell the story in their own words by telling you what happens to Zomo the Rabbit in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

This was a western African tale of a clever young rabbit who seeks wisdom. He asked the sun god and was presented with three tasks to complete in order to gain wisdom. After doing the tasks, the wisdom he gained was about how being clever isn’t without consequences.

My reaction to this story was
Show More
that it brought me back to a younger version of me. I would always use wit to get my way out of situations without thinking about the negative repercussions.

A great class activity would be to integrate this story into a multicultural day theme that centers around Africa.

Have the students look up folktales from their culture or that they can either relate to or love and have them share with the class

I liked this book for a few reasons. One reason was because of its illustrations. All of the illustrations were big and colorful to keep the readers engaged in reading the story. The colors are also those of African American culture. For example, Zomo the Rabbit has a shirt on that are the colors
Show More
yellow, green, and red, which are colors of African American culture. These colors are seen throughout the entire book as well. I also like how this book was written. For example, in the beginning of the book it starts by, “Zomo the rabbit! He is not big, he is not strong, but he is very, very clever”. I liked this because it leaves the reader wondering why he is so clever, and it is also foreshadow of what’s going to happen later in the book. The big idea of this story is what goes around comes around. For example, even though Zomo did exactly what was asked of him, he angered some other animals in the process, and now he must be careful and watch his back.

I recently read, "Zomo The Rabbit," and enjoyed the book. I liked it because of the illustrations. Each picture was full of color to keep me interested in the story's plot. For example, Zomo's shirt and the scenery are drawn with many bright colors to make them pop out. I also liked the main idea
Show More
of the story. The main idea is about karma. I liked the main idea because it is relatable to everyday life. Even though Zomo did what he thought he was supposed to, he did not think of how the other animals would react and made them angry. I like this message because it can apply to people, like it does the animals.
