Description

Fiction. Mystery. Thriller. It was the trial that electrified the world. Not only because of the defendant, Maggie Bradford, the woman whose songs captivated the world's heart. Not only because of the victim, Will Shepard, the world's most glamorous athlete. But also because everyone said Maggie had murdered not just one husband, but two. And because in Maggie's world - the world she feared and despised but could not escape, the world of the powerful, the rich, and the ruthless - both death and life could never be what they seemed. From James Patterson, bestselling author of KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER, comes his most brilliantly realized thriller, a story that will shatter your expectations...and hold every last one of your nerves in thrall, with each twist of the plot and every turn of the page.… (more)

Short, choppy 3-4 page chapters. No likeable characters. Gave up after 140 pages.

This was such a tame book. Even by Patterson standards. Much more like a Harlequin Romance than a mystery. Definitely disappointing.

Story is very good but there isn't much suspense until the end. Everything comes together in the last couple of chapters. High reccommend as a beach read. Very good plot and character development. Wasn't always a page turner. At times, I wanted to skip over paragraphs.

Not as good ad the Alex Cross books, but worth the read.

Throughout the book I couldn't help thinking it seemed familiar and I do think I have read this before but it was a good (re)read.

I didn't think it was as good as some other Patterson's though, maybe we need more

than one book to know a character.

The story of “Hide & Seek” was not bad but it was not great either. The book will definitely keep you reading. It is a page turner, quick and entertaining (thank God, for that!)

I did not like Maggie Bradford as I did not connect with her. As I kept reading I kept telling myself “Oh, she is

the bad one. I know that” and then enters Will. He did not have an iota of goodness in him, so any chance of liking him was already washed away. Although there were a few characters who were interesting none of them stayed long enough or made an impression.

“Hide & Seek” was yet another James Patterson book I picked up in haste. He continues to remain my favorite author but he has churned out some “not-so-good” books and unfortunately this is one of them. A 3 on 5 and the story would have been a hit if only it had better characters.

Blah, blah, blah, talk, talk, talk, whine, whine, whine.

After the fourth (or fifth?) time hearing, "This is my story, and I will tell it from the beginning because I know you want to know," all I could think about was that country song that went "A little less talk and a lot more action".

I like the

author's other stuff (the Cross books), so I'm not going to give up. This one, though, didn't pass the 50 page/30 minute test.

This was the first James Patterson book that I have read. It was a loosely based crime fiction novel, but very different from other crime fiction. The plot line jumped around a lot. I still enjoyed reading this book, but is probably not a book that I would read for a second time.

Its a good James Patterson book. One written by the author without anybody else. Woohoo! Its the usual pattern, with twists and turns. Maggie tells the story. Maggie is in an abusive relationship and has a daughter. She ends up killing her first husband in self defence. She's meek and mild and
Show More
wants the best for her daughter.

She writes songs and sings and makes it as an international star. Things go well for a while but then she meets Will Shepherd who is a dangerous man but wins her heart. But Maggie doesn't know the man she married. Now she's on trial for the murder of him. But did she do it?

The trial is big news and Maggie is branded a murderer. She just wants to get home to her children. It has a twist at the end which all thrillers generally have and this one was good. I had an indicator of what was going to happen but enjoyed it greatly. A Patterson that I really enjoyed.
