HTML:Out of bail skippers and rent money, Stephanie throws caution to the wind and follows in the entrepreneurial footsteps of Super Bounty Hunter, Ranger, engaging in morally correct and marginally legal enterprises. So, a scumball blows himself to smithereens on her first day of policing a crack house and the sheik she was chauffeuring stole the limo. But hey, nobody's perfect! Anyway, Stephanie has other things on her mind. Her mother wants her to find Uncle Fred who's missing after arguing with his garbage company; homicidal rapist Benito Ramirez is back, quoting scripture and stalking Stephanie; vice cop Joe Morelli has a box of condoms with Stephanie's name on it; and Stephanie's afraid Ranger has his finger on her trigger. High Five is the 5th book in the Stephanie Plum series. In this one Stephanie's uncle goes missing after visiting the dry cleaners, on his way to complain to the garbage company about his bill. Next the one 'FTA' open at Vinny's turns out to be a rather irritable 'little person' who doesn't want to
Show More
bother taking the time away from his work to take care of his court date. Like all of Plum's adventures this one is full of surprises, near death escapes and lots of laughter. Just like the rest of them. If you like Stephanie Plum you'll like this one and if you don't you won't. Stephanie never seems to learn from her experiences so it is something that really irritates me if I listen/read to many of them too close together, but given a little space in between I find them laugh out loud funny and this one is no exception.

It took me just a few days to zip through these two volumes in the Stephanie Plum mystery series, so I decided to combine them into one review. In High Five, Stephanie's Uncle Fred disappears under mysterious circumstances, and with bounty hunting business a bit slow, Stephanie accepts a request to
Show More
track down Fred. Hot Six, opens with a murder and fellow bounty hunter Ranger is the prime suspect. Both books move along at a fast clip and include all that we've come to love from this series:

Colorful, funny main characters like Lula and Grandma Mazur
Strange and sometimes evil people breaking into Stephanie's apartment
Cars that are stolen, catch fire, or explode
The possiblity of romance with either vice cop Joe Morelli, or Ranger
The romantic subplot really accelerates in these two books. High Five ends on a cliffhanger with one of the two men visiting Stephanie for a romantic liaison, but the man's identity is not revealed. Hot Six begins with a prologue in which we find out who it was (no spoilers here!). Clearly both Joe and Ranger have a "thing" for Stephanie, and she has a "thing" for them, too. I suppose readers are equally divided on their favorite.

I enjoy this series as a diversion from more serious literature. This was perfect fare for a hot summer weekend.

What I liked- I love the way this whole series is written. It has fun characters and lots of humor. This book was especially good because there is some new romantic tension as Stephanie finds herself attracted to Ranger. I loved the cliff hanger end and can't wait to read the next one.

What I didn't
Show More
like- This book was pretty good. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the midget. He added to the comic relief but I felt like he should have played a bigger role in the story. I kept waiting for him to be the key to everything or to save the day. Not so much.

What makes this book different from the other four? Ranger. The sexual tension in this book is so delicious, I think I might have to rad it again just to study. Yeah, there was a mystery. Didn't care. Sexy people and the most hilarious car death. 'Nuff said.

Fun, fasting moving book with interesting characters and story lines

Cleaned up some loose ends from previous books. Not quite as good cast of quirky characters. The midget/little person was a good touch, but needed to be more central.

I tend to turn to this series when I need a bit of brain candy, and this one doesn't disappoint. My only complaint on this one is the slightly ambiguous ending. I read "Hot Six" some time ago and I've had to rack my brain to figure it out.

Uncle Fred is missing. Stephanie Plum decides to go find him.
Fred is killed because he finds a garbage bag with a dead body and blackmails the killer.

As usual, there were laugh out loud moments in this book. For the first time, the tone started to annoy me. Stephanie is too blase about violence, and doesn't react realistically to what are clearly frightening moments. She finds a psychotic killer on her fire escape, and runs to sleep in the
Show More
living room on the couch. There are plenty of colorful characters, however, and the Morelli/Ranger triangle sizzles.

Stephanie Plum tries to find her missing uncle. A juicy cliff-hanger ending!

Uncle Fred goes missing--another good Stephanie Plum mystery
LibraryThing member bellalibrarian
More fun, mystery and humor with Stephanie Plum, the bombshell bounty hunter! Stephanie's Uncle Fred is missing and she is forced to look for him, despite her pleas that she isn't a private investigator. She also gets a really nice car, but we all know what happens to Stephanie's cars...

In reviewing High Five, I should address the rest of the Stephanie Plum series because I don't think I've ever reviewed any of them on this blog. I read the first book last summer on my Alaska cruise. I bought it for my mom as a Christmas gift because I thought she might like to start a new series
Show More
and I wanted to read it too. My mom read it and really didn't care for it too much. I think her view jaded me a bit so I decided that I didn't really care for it either.

Until I left the book on the ship and couldn't stop thinking about it.

I started thinking that it was actually a pretty funny book. Morelli was just plain hot and really Stephanie is quite a character. Maybe I really did like the book! Yeah! I did like the book! I went out and bought Two for the Dough and Three to get Deadly. After reading book two, I really liked the series and requested the rest for Christmas. Now I'm picking my way through them, alternating between other books because I don't want to run out of Stephanie Plum books. That would be horrible. It's nice to have so many books in a series to look forward to.

High Five starts out with Stephanie trying to catch a little person who failed to appear at his hearing. This man happens to be quite irritated with her and it doesn't go well. She's also looking for her uncle who has disappeared. All the favorite characters are there. Grandma Mazur is always fun. She's one of the best characters in the series. Morelli is still hot, Ranger is still hot and I'm really anxious for Stephanie to pick her man. Lulu is the faithful friend as always. Stephanie manages to get one car blown up and another one stolen, so she's back with her Buick.

All in all, it's a fun read. There are many laugh out loud moments. Janet Evanovich has a way with her characters and since there are so many books to read, I look forward to reading them. Good book. Good series.

Again, I'm loving these books ... giving me good laughs. I think 4 was better than 5, but I'm still getting a kick out of them!

Another Janet Evanovich knockout! This time Stephanie Plum, a bond enforcement agent for her sleazy cousin Vinnie aka bounty hunter is searching for her cheapskate Uncle Fred, a dwarf FTA, and working for the sexy Latino Ranger. I don't know how Evanovich keeps coming up with these over-the-top,
Show More
laugh out loud winners.

I have liked all the Stephanie Plum novels, but I really, really liked High Five.

I love the fact that this one deals with family issues. I’d like to think that if one of my family members went missing, I could help put the pieces together to find them. I’d hope not to get my car and everything
Show More
else blown up , but hey …. that doesn’t happen in real life. Right?

Reese Witherspoon and Wendy Finerman are working on a movie based on One for the Money and I really hope they cast The Rock as Ranger. That’s who I imagine when Ranger comes into play. And in this book, he had a bigger role. His character is so shady, it makes you wonder what goes on in his head. It’s a little irritating, but it keeps you guessing. Oh and the porsche and beemer don’t hurt either.

And finally, I liked how she ended book 5. You had to start book 6 right away because it left you hanging. Of course I won’t spoil it for you. Open Hot Six!

I give High Five 4 bookmarks.

This Stephanie Plum book is by far the best (so far) in my humble opinion. It's the doubled-over, wiping the tears from my eyes type of funny and unpredictable book. Stephanie continues to attract all kinds of trouble as she tries to bring in some minor criminals while searching for her missing
Show More
uncle. We reunite with some of our favorite characters in this one: Ranger, Lula, Morelli and my favorite Grandma Mauzer, and meet some hilarious new ones: a midget who decides to camp out in Stephanie's living room and a bookie called Bunchy who keeps following Stephanie around. The characters really make this series and I can't wait to read the next one to find out what they are up to next.

Stephanie Plum is a sassy bounty hunter who starts out High Five looking for her uncle as a family favor (seeing as how she finds people for a living). Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems, and soon Stephanie is hip-swinging deep in a murder mystery, flanked by two very attractive, very
Show More
sexy, strong men vying for her attention. The action never stops for Stephanie. If she isn't beating up an angry little person or gorging on junk food, she is being stalked by a rapist, narrowly missing being blown up by bombs (twice), or being harassed by a supposed bookie. Add a former prostitute, a sassy grandmother, an astute gerbil, and a sarcastic Arab teenager into the mix and the fun never stops. In a word, High Five is fun. Something I would appreciate of all series is the fact you don't have to read Four to Score in order to get High Five. The characters allude to previous Plum escapades, but they don't confuse the story at all.

Stephanie Plum is an unlikely bounty hunter: young, sexy, kind of tough, but mostly smart-mouthed and little unsure of her direction in life, especially when it comes to her love life. In this novel, Stephanie is investigating the disappearance of her uncle, a grumpy cheapsake, who may have
Show More
kvetched once too often to the garbage company. At the same time, Stephanie is being tailed by a bookie named Bunchie, courted by a sexy but possibly criminal named Ranger and stalked by a serial killer named Ramirez. Oh, and Stephanie also has a boyfriend, too--sort of.
A funny, page-turning mystery with a lot of local color.

Her run-ins with Randy Briggs made this more enjoyable for me than the last one.

Again, a very fun, humorous read. The plot was a little redundant and the romance felt a bit forced, but I still enjoyed it. The fight scene between Stephanie and the midget made the whole book worth reading purely for the laughs.

Stephanie Plum is back. And waht coule be worse to try to find than a missing FTA? How about a missing Uncle? Yep is out to find her Uncle Fred. The bad news - Fred had pictures of a body in a garbage bag, and the last place Fred was seen was at the gargabe company. She takes on some side jobs for
Show More
ranger, which prove to be a riot, other than she gets the Porsche he gave her blown up, and crushed by a garbage truck. These things could ONLY happen to her, in Jersey in the 80's. Which of course is what makes Evanovich's series such a joy to read.

Another case, another kooky character. Apprehending a three-foot tall man is of course a challenge, but I garnered a lot of raised eyebrows laughing at Stephanie's attempts when reading in public. One thing, the subject of the main search is lost pretty early. Things are pretty convoluted, but, as
Show More
usual, it takes a few cars blowing up to straighten everything out.Yeah for Ranger for taking Stephanie on as an employee. His patience is endless...boy I'd like to know how long it'd last. His patience!Yeah, right! Wonder if he has any other job openings. This book wins the award for best (and most frustrating) cliffhanger ending. Thank goodness I have the next book in my hands already!

Another great addition to the series. Stephanie has such a time with getting her FTA's and with the men in her life period. So many Laugh Out Loud parts in here especially with Grandma Mazur in the picture. This series is so fun and action packed I am off to read the next one.
