Even thought there were 4 crimes trying to be solved in this book, including one that had the head of the Private Agency as the prime suspect, the co-authors made it easy to follow each storyline, even though they would jump from one to another throughout the book. It helped that I read the book in

Private #1 Suspect started out with a bang... literally. I was caught up in the action from page one. Having read Private, the first book of the series, awhile ago, it took me a few minutes to remember the characters. Luckily Patterson provided a brief description of the key players.

Unfortunately

about the middle of the book, the storyline started to drag for me. Jack and his employees are frantically trying to prove his innocence while the police detective assigned to his case thinks Jack committed the murder. Meanwhile, Jack is tormented about his feelings for his murdered ex-girlfriend, harboring feelings for another past love and thinking about a new woman. It was a bit much and distracted me from the murder mystery.

Jack has a hunch who could have set him up. Someone who has been out to get him for a long time. When the killer's identity is finally revealed, it was anti-climatic and felt a bit forced. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy Private #1 Suspect as much as I did Private.

This book sure won't win any literary awards. Each chapter is about four pages long and is intended to have the reader skip along through it like a stone across the water. Good book to read at the beach as it will occupy your time, but not tax your brain.

Another multi-plot/case twist and turn. Our hero runs three cases and two women at once. Hard to imagine, but it's fiction and a fun listen.

Jack Morgan returns from a European business trip to find his ex murdered in his own bed. Naturally, being an ex, he was instantly the #1 suspect, although the facts of the case really never added up in a plausible manner. At the same time, his agency, Private, is contracted to baby sit a spoiled

movie star, a hotel owner hires Private to investigate a string of murdered johns, and the mob comes a-calling with the proverbial "offer you can't refuse." It all amounts to an eventful couple of weeks in Los Angeles' high-profile private investigation firm.

Multiple on-going cases was something I liked in the first Private. Since then, I haven't read them in order. The last three I read, Private Berlin, Private London and Private Games all focused on a single case, and involve other offices so owner Jack Morgan is only peripherally involved. I didn't enjoy either of these three books as much as the first Private, and now, Private #1 Suspect.

The book is paced like an action movie and never gets bogged down. None of the case outcomes are shocking, there's no "wow, I didn't see that coming." The cops are maybe a little too Neanderthal, they seem to have an axe to grind and were a little too willing to believe in their own implausible theories. Still, it's a fun book, I'll look next for Private LA, which I presume will be more of the same.

Maxine Paetro is one the best co-authors James Patterson has. Her books are better than a lot of the other co-authors.

At first, there seemed to be some many cases going on that it was difficult to keep everything straight and figure out which personalities and cases were connected to which. As the novel progressed, I became more engrossed in the individual cases and of course, the main case where Jack's found his

ex-girlfriend dead in his bed. The person or persons who set up Jack did a thorough job, and it was interesting to follow the case. I will definitely read another in the Private series.

Jack Morgan has lived a complicated life and built a complex international security firm from his late father's legacy. Private manages to make the problems go away with an elite group of people who are diverse enough to fill every required gap. Jack has never been more grateful for that than now

as he stands accused of murdering an ex-lover. The book moves along with Patterson's signature style - a solid read.

This book was okay. It focused on characters from the last book. No new players, per se. Each time I reached for it I had to do a little rewind to get myself back into the story. Mixed feelings. 🙁

This is an engaging book, and if it sometimes feels as if the protagonist's detective agency has a little too much in the way of special technology, it doesn't unbalance the main story line as the investigators take on the job of proving their boss didn't kill his former fiancée. In addition,

there are a number of subplots with the investigators taking on a job for the Mob and trying to stop a movie star make himself look bad.

Mostly good, the various plots were reasonable but the way character points of view cut around was sometimes difficult to follow especially if it was for people on the same investigation. Chapters were also almost painfully short - barely four or five pages in most of the hundred and twenty seven of them!

I enjoyed this book like I do with every James Patterson book. Now that I'm done with it, I don't remember why the woman was killed. Doesn't make sense to me. Maybe too rushed. Who knows. But a nice quick read.
