For the first book a series, this is a good one. I just felt like it was about the romance between Ryker and Zara then about the murders. However, I liked Ryker and Zara, so I am not complaining. They had anything but a "casual" relationship. So glad they realized this and decided to make it

permanent. Ryker's brothers, Heath and Denver were awesome as well. The witty banter between the brothers had me laughing and smiling. Due to the fact that I enjoyed all of the main characters in this book, it was very easy to read. The last half of the story is where I would say that it did pick up regarding the murders. However, the murders were not the intriguing part about the story but the backstory and someone from the guys past that had me wanting to read more. I do look forward to checking out the next book and getting to know Heath and Denver better as well as seeing Ryker and Zara again.

I liked this book. I do have to admit that it took me awhile to really get hooked by the story but once I was I really enjoyed it. I jumped at the chance to read this book since it is the start of a new series by an author that I have wanted to read for a long time. The story had a lot of great

elements added to the appeal of the book.

I think that the main reason that I had some trouble getting into the story was because I just couldn't totally wrap my head around Ryker's behavior. I love an alpha male Hero as much as the next girl but he was a bit over the top. I really couldn't figure out why Zara would want to put up with him. As the book progressed and Ryker and Zara spent more time together their actions toward each other started to make more sense to me. In the end, I do think that their relationship worked very well.

Ryker was an great characters. He has had a difficult past and has dedicated himself to finding the lost along with his two blood brothers. He has some special abilities which make him very good at what he does. It has always just been him and his brothers with no other connections. He has been seeing Zara very casually. When he sees that she may be in trouble, he becomes very protective and realizes that maybe it wasn't really so casual after all.

Zara has also been through a lot as well. She has built a life that she is proud of working as a paralegal. She also tries very hard to help others and has sacrificed a lot to assist an old friend. She knows that things between her and Ryker have no chance of becoming anything more than physical so she takes what she can get. When she finds herself in trouble, she accepts Ryker's help but also makes a few brave moves herself.

I would recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This new series is a spin-off of the Sin Brothers series, which I still need to read. If you haven't read the earlier series, this is a great starting point since everything is explained very well. I can't wait to read the next Blood Brothers book!

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.

Deadly Silence by Rebecca Zanetti

First in a spin-off of the Sin Brothers series. Stands alone.
A suspense thriller, slightly paranormal, romance. Enhanced hearing, strength and speed along with high IQ's. A mad doctor at wrk. An evil, cold, mad scientist doctor at work.

I loved the Sin Brothers for

their protectiveness of women, children and the beaten down. And the powerful women that stood up and fought for themselves. No victims here.
The same can be said for this series so far.

Brothers and family can be made and their relationships and loyalty are all encompassing.
In this book, three teens in a boys home become blood-oath brothers in the introduction and the story shows their support and 100% commitment to each other.
Ryker and Zara grow closer and soon are super protective of their little family.
When Zara cooked for the men, they ate with super appreciation and were not stingy when their thanks. It was adorable when Ben then bonded and "followed her around like a duckling".

Yes, super he-men that can be a bit sexist, but they mean well and their vulnerability just makes you want to hug them. You can't blame the women for turning around and wanting to take care of the men right back.

An awesome adventure, romance and thriller.

Deadly Silence
3 Stars

Paralegal Zara Remington knows very little about the mysterious man in her life and in her bed. Private Investigator Ryker Jones is an enigma with deep, dark secrets, but when her best friend is murdered and Zara becomes a target, he is the only one she can turn to.

Zanetti's Sin Brothers series about 4 genetically engineered super-soldiers is entertaining and refreshing. Unfortunately, Deadly Silence, the first book in the spin-off series fails to live up to expectations.

The plot is a huge mess with 3 separate storylines including the ongoing conspiracy established in the original series, the investigation into the murder of an abused woman, and the hunt for a serial killer targeting redheads. Any one of these storylines could have made an excellent read, but together the threads remain superficial and underdeveloped.

The romance between Zara and Ryker is also disappointing as their relationship is already in progress at the beginning of the story. Consequently, there is no build up of sexual tension and the emotional attachment is sudden and unrealistic.

Moreover, Ryker's alpha male routine is excessive and rather than coming across as a protective and caring lover, he is overbearing and domineering. Zara is ostensibly an intelligent and independent woman, but caves to her hormones and allows Ryker to walk all over her - not sexy!

The writing is also problematic with one-dimensional characters, plot points that lack foundation and clumsily written dialogue.

In sum, there is nothing new or innovative in this story, and the characters and writing are a significant problem. Hopefully, the next book will be better.
