Description

Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:In this witty, sensual, poignant tale, New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann explores destiny, deception, and that steamy tipping point between deep friendship and romantic love. Photograher Clint McCade was a rugged free spirit with the perfect life, until he realized something vital was missing--Sandy Kirk. Since grade school, Sandy had been Clint's best friend and closest confidante. She was smart, beautiful, shy--and clueless about her power over men. But when Clint finally seeks her out to declare his love, he finds she's fallen for another man. Sandy knew she was a lot of things to Clint--except what she'd always longed to be: the woman he loved. So it comes as no surprise when he encourages her pursuit of another, even offering to coach her in the art of seduction. But soon the friends find themselves engaged in a series of crossed signals, mixed messages, and unbearably titillating close encounters that prove only one thing is certain: body language doesn't lie. My first real romance... pretty good. Lots of tension. Very light on plot, very fluffy.

This one was just okay...the library had it on audio, it was short (about 5 hours), and I needed something to listen to while I worked on a project, so....

First of all, the whole "body language" bit just seemed too ridiculous for words. I seriously cannot imagine any self-respecting guy giving
Show More
those "lessons"--at least not in the awkward, stilted way Clint did. It's been done in other venues and books in a much more realistic--and sensual--manner than this. Secondly, most of the drama in this book just seemed way too manufactured for my taste. It got to the point where it was almost as if Sandy was looking for ways to drive him away. Honestly, a guy says he loves you, can't you just believe him and go with it instead of constantly looking for signs that he's going to leave you? In a nutshell--it wasn't awful, but I was very glad I had read it for free.

This entire story was one enormous, convoluted Big Misunderstanding. All Sandy & Clint's issues could have been solved if they had just had an honest conversation on page 20. Instead they went through one ridiculously contrived miscommunication after another until page 274. This was really
Show More
frustrating because I liked the characters and was interested in them getting their HEA. I just found the way they got there really annoying.

Not Suzanne Brockmann's best. None of her characteristic humour, as in the Troubleshooters series. The miscommunication between the two leads, McCade and Sandy, was heartrending and showed how it is not as plain sailing as you might think to move from friends to lovers. There were things they were
Show More
in the habit of not talking through. This would have been great as a short story, but didn't sustain a novel. Admittedly, it was only 5 3/4 hours, which was great.
