Summary:
Splat's mother was raking leaves and splat was making a mess playing in them. She told him to go get a pumpkin. He found the biggest, roundest, orange pumpkin he could find. His mother was excited when he brought it home.

Personal Reaction:
It's a simple story to start the fall lessons with.

I love the illustrations with the fall colors and the different types of pumpkins. It reminds me of fall when I was a child.

Classroom Extensions:

1. Bring the class to a pumpkin patch to show them the different types of pumpkins.
2. bake a pie or bread with the pumpkins, with the children's help.

I absolutely loved this book. The only draw back for me was that the author used third person writing and that can be confusing for younger readers. Other than that, this book was filled with lots of pumpkin fun. The Splat series of books are generally very fanciful and exciting for young readers.

This over the top cat has decided to pick the biggest pumpkin he can and get it home to his mom. Some crazy things happen when Splat finds a ginormous pumpkin and needs to stand on it and roll it home. For example, he starts wildly out of control and then somehow manages to steer the pumpkin down city streets and in between cars. The text interacts with the illustrations well, by having exaggerated, colorful, and bolded letters to work in conjunction with the picture depicted on that particular page. Like, when Splat falls into a pile leaves the text reads, SPLAT!, in large, yellow, vibrating letters and leaves are flying all around him. I have found all of "Splat the Cat" books to be enjoyable and this one is no exception.
