This is a quick book; great for preschoolers. At the end of the book they reference all of the illustrations which are crafts and woodwork made from many different cultures.

Using folk art from around the world to create scenes with collage, large simple rhyming text describes the journey of a day in the life of a farmer going to market to buy and sell. Includes reference of folk art origins/descriptions.

Market Day is a very colorful book that kids will enjoy. It is simple to read and the pictures are very intricate. The pictures look like photographs of different objects placed to make the story. It also seems to have a south west/ Mexican theme. It is about all of the steps that the family takes

to go to the market. They feed the chickens, work in the field, and load the car for the market.

Market Day is a delightful book of rhyme and wonderful folk art pictures. The pictures are photographs of actual handmade objects. The story begins with family preparations being made to go to the market to buy and sell and ends with the family coming home.

I always enjoy going to fresh produce

markets. There is something special about the atmosphere of the different vendors and wide array of fresh produce.

As a classroom extension, the students would make their own piece of folk art. I would then have them write a short poem relating to their piece.

This story about buying and selling goods at a market in Mexico uses folk art to create unique, interesting illustrations. It could be used as an introduction to the study of folk art or a discussion about Mexico.
