cute pictures, but didn't get much of a response from the preschoolers...

Delightfully silly pictures accompany examples of reasons that various animals should not wear clothing. Good starting point for readers to give more examples for more animals.

In Animals, Barrett has teamed up with her illustrator husband, and created a very silly reason why animals should not wear clothes, from a pig would make it too messy, to a billygoat who would eat the clothes. The illustrations are truly what make this book. Pictures of a giraffe wearing a bunch

of neckties and a moose struggling with a pair of suspenders really make for some giggles. I showed my husband the book, and we laughed forever at the picture of the snake, who would “lose” the clothes. He is a reptile fanatic, and used to rib his female friends about dressing up their dogs. He used to ask them if he should put a bow tie on his snake, and they would just get ticked off. I also thought about how my neighbors and I used to dress up our poor animals, and the looks on the faces of those poor beasts. We even lost a cat dressed as a baby once, and found it, one booty here, one bonnet there. If nothing else, this teaches kids that pets are not dolls!

This is a fun book to read in a group of two or more, because it is fun to point out all of the silly happenings in each picture. Ron Barrett is great at capturing the words into pictures.

This is a very simple book illustrating various reasons why animals should... yeah.

The text is simple and a bit understated, the illustrations are quietly hilarious (if that's possible). I keep picturing the hen with pants on and cracking up!

The book “Animals should definitely not wearing clothing.” is a great book, especially for beginning readers, English learners, or struggling readers. The first reason is because of the way the text is displayed. The text is in a large, bold font, there are only a few words on each page, and

the text is on its own page so that the illustrations do not interfere. A second reason I enjoyed this book was the brightly colored, humorous illustrations that accompany the text. They depict silly scenarios such as a porcupine poking through a sweater, a camel wearing a hat on its hump, and a snake inside a pair of pants. The text and illustrations allow readers to easily understand and interpret what’s happening in the book and will prompt discussions about why animals are content to live in their own skin, rather than human clothing. Lastly, this book could be very beneficial for a vocabulary lesson for young readers on animals and articles of clothing. The big idea of the book is to show young children how animals and humans are different in a lighthearted manner.

This book is cute, however I did not personally enjoy it. I did not enjoy this book because it was very boring for me to read. I do think children will love it. I did like that the text is big and bold and the pictures are extremely colorful. This brings the book to life and makes the text stand

out. The main idea of this book is why animals should not wear clothing.

Animals should definitely not wear clothing. -- ...because a snake would lose it, a billy goat would eat it for lunch, and it would always be wet on a walrus! This well-loved book by Judi and Ron Barrett shows the very youngest why animals' clothing is perfect...just as it is.
