Whenever I've been reading a lot of heavy, deep books, fiction and nonfiction, I pause and turn to Janet Evanovich for a guaranteed funny, fast read and good time. As has been noted in a bunch of the reviews here, her Stephanie Plum - the character and the series - is delightful and beloved, but
Show More
seems to have but a single plot line. Enter Lee Goldberg and one terrific collaboration on a new series, the Fox and O'Hare series with Kate and Nick. Apparently Janet Evanovich works her magic with great characters and wonderful humor and Lee Goldberg knows how to plot 'em! Great combination, resulting in a relaxing and fun good read, whether you do the reading or listen to the audio CD. Lots of fast action and great one-liners, terrific characters and unbelievable situations that make you eager for the next book in the series.

I'm not usually a fan of explosions, theft, shootings, neck braking, etc... etc... etc... but put them in the hands of Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg and they are amazing. Add in the Toblerones and you've got yourself a par-ty! When is the next one is this series coming out???

In The Chase, by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, Kate OHare and Nick Fox are on a mission to steal back a valuable bronze statue from a corrupt politician, avoiding an international diplomatic incident with the Chinese government. Stretched across multiple countries, the pair will have to figure
Show More
out how to get past the ultimate in Òhome securityÓ and stay alive, while there are so many who want them dead.

Evanovich writes with an easy style that make this book fast, fun and entertaining. So of the plot was a bit unbelievable and improbable but it is part of what make this novel so fun. Full of banter and snarkiness, this book will make a get beach read.

I had a good time reading The Chase. I had to stop and share a few lines to others in the car with me.
I love the humor, characters, drama and action. Had some fight scenes, bombs & cons I can see as the only part that some might not like. No sex scenes, or swear words that people object

too.

The plot is Nick Fox thief and con artist is now working for the FBI. Only three FBI know about it. FBI Special Agent Kate had spent years chasing him. Now she has to work with him to stop bigger crooks. A China Treasure was stolen and a fake replaced in the Smithsonian museum. They want it back now. Kate and Nick need to find out who stole it and get it back without anyone knowing.

The setting for the book goes all over the World. A few places in US, China and Scotland are a few of the places.

The pace and action of the book was fast. Every time it seemed to go slow something else would come up that needed to be handled.

Nick Fox is a charming con artist and thief. He is still on the top 10 FBI wanted. He likes impossible targets.

Kate is a no nonsense FBI Agent. In The Heist she was former U.S. Navy seal before joining the FBI. Now she is former Special Forces.

Carter Grove is the bad guy they have to con. He used to run the White House for eight years, He is rich, has own security force that contracts with military. Powerful man who does not like to be crossed.

Their are bunch of other characters that are used to work the con. Help Kate out, like her father and other ex-military soldiers he worked with.

This is a fun book, in some ways it is so over the top it is perfect book to get lost into.

I would love to see many more O'Hare and Fox stories. I will read them.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

Janet Evanovich is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her Stephanie Plum series is fast-paced and fun, never failing to entertain. The Chase, the second novel in the Fox and O'Hare series does not quite live up to the Plum series.

I'm not sure how these collaborations between writers work, how
Show More
much each writer contributes; I have never read anything by Lee Goldberg with which to compare this book. It feels to me like the difference between color and black and white. The Fox and O'Hare series is just a little less colorful, a little less funny.

Nicolas Fox and Kate O'Hare are antagonists who are forced to work together, who begin to feel an attraction for each other. It's obvious the series is leading to some sort of romance between the two, but it doesn't feel real. Perhaps they are waiting to strengthen this in forthcoming books.

The gang that goes along for the ride is a fun mixed-up group of unique personalities. My favorite is Kate's dad, Jack. His idea of quality time while his daughter was growing up was teaching her how to shoot different weapons. He loves it when she comes to him for help in her schemes to take out the bad guys and he has a plethora of old war buddies who are available to assist in the operations. I'd love it if subsequent books in the series would flesh these characters and their personalities out even more.

There were a lot of similarities between the first book in the series, The Heist, and this one. One genius evil mastermind with a network of highly trained goons to defeat. A secluded isle/plantation to retreat to, lots of explosions and bullets.

Yet I have to say the book was enjoyable to read. If you like suspense thrillers, action-type books, you should enjoy this book.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley and Random House Publishing.

The government at its best. Hiring thieves to help steal back treasures from other thieves. Special ops groups used for self indulgence of past government officials, and love all tangled into one story.

In THE CHASE we find FBI agent Kate O'Hare chasing after career thief Nicholas Fox. The story begins with a bomb threat which quickly turns to a bank robbery which finally ends with an escape in broad daylight at a Star Trek convention. Planned or not???

After the openning things quickly progress
Show More
as the reader learns that things are not always what they seem with this story. The lines between black and white are not always clear. We are taken on international trips to find clues only to end up back in the USA for a dramatic conclusion you won't see coming. I liked the characters in the story and we are given just enough family history to make things work. The characters are well developed and likable. Situations the characters find themselves in sometimes seem blatantly unbelievable, but they work in the story itself. If you like the television shows such as White Collar or Leverage, chances are you will like this series.

FBI Agent Kate O’Hara and con artist Nicholas Fox team us again in this novel to help the government retrieve an expensive artifact that has been stolen from the Smithsonian so, when it is returned to its owner China, they will know that the real thing and not an imitation has been returned. This
Show More
story follows the duo on a wild ride across the US and Great Britain to find and retrieve the artifact and get the real thing into the right hands. Once that occurs, Nick and Kate go rogue to continue the chase and retrieve additional works of art to their rightful owners. As usual for Evanovich’s books (I have not read any by the other author), the story that unfolds is funny, unrealistically farfetched and filled with all sorts of crazy twists and turns. I found myself wondering just what would happen next. Again, the chemistry between Kate and Nick is strong. They banter about all sorts of things, but they manage to carefully avoid the obvious thought they might end up together as a couple. One wonders when and if it will happen and whether that will change things. Obviously, Kate is not ready to become involved with one of the country’s ten most wanted, but has difficulty keeping Nick at an arm’s length. The story, as I mentioned, is again filled with many and varied twists and turns, as the options that Nick manages to “pull out of his back pocket, not to be outdone by Kate. I realize the story focuses on Kate and Nick, but I would like and enjoy seeing more involvement by Kate’s father and his retired, black ops cronies, as I think they could only add to the stories. This book is a must for any of the many faithful Evanovich fans. She has managed to infuse some of the events and sub-plot like events that have made her Stephanie Plumb books so popular. This book will also appeal to anyone who enjoys light mysteries, though not really like other, cozy-type light mysteries. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Review based on ARC (NetGalley) - originally via publisher contest.

I'm a pretty big fan of the One for the Money series by Evanovich, so I was excited to hear she'd begun a new series involving a tough heroine who is a highly trained FBI agent.

I'm a pretty big fan, I say, but I don't think that
Show More
Evanovich's writing is "high literature." So I'm not coming into this with heightened expectations as far as the writing is concerned. I like the One for the Money series because we can't take Stephanie Plum too seriously, because Stephanie Plum doesn't take herself too seriously, and because she finds herself in all kinds of awkward, entertaining, humiliating, and interesting situations. They're fun and quick reads.

I know nothing of Lee Goldberg... far as I was concerned, I was reading an Evanovich. And I also didn't know that this was the Second in a series until rather near the end of the book. This was just the first I'd heard of this new series, and yes please! I'd love a free copy to review!

So all of that is to essentially say that I don't really know what went wrong here. It's not terrible at all. Really. But it's not particularly good. There isn't that spark that Evanovich has in her Plum series. It's just kind of blase meandering from one high-action, high-stakes heist in one country, to another high-action, high-stakes heist in another (or, sure on a plane in mid-air...). Right?! It sounds interesting! It sounds like you're going to read this fun and engaging book, a step or two up from Plum, about a badass FBI chick and her quarry, flying to fun and dangerous places, doing fun and dangerous things. And technically that is this book.

But, I don't know, it just kind of fell flat. The humor that works so well with Plum didn't work for Kate O'Hare, the tension that works so well with Joe Morelli just didnt' work for Nicholas Fox.

But it wasn't bad either. There was a lot of activity, a lot of punching, some interesting new plot-twists, some interesting new characters (I like the peripherals a bit), and it went pretty quick. And I commend the authors for writing a 2nd in a series that was not so dependent on the 1st that I constantly felt like I was left out of the inside jokes or plot... As I say, I didn't even realize this was a 2nd in a series until near the end.

So, overall, I'd recommend to fans as Evanovich-Lite. This'll get you through to the next Plum release, but it's not going to be your new favorite... you're definitely going to want to go back to Plum.

FBI agent Kate O'Hare's under the radar relationship with one of their top 10's, con man Nicolas Fox, continues in this second novel in a series collaboration between two top authors. The job this time involves quite a bit of globe trotting, while the duo attempt to stay ahead of other art thieves

not as interested in whether or not the Chinese get back a real rooster statue. The implied sexual tension between Kate and Nic is perhaps a casualty of the dual authorship. Their witty repartee comes close, never really takes off.

An exciting read jam-packed with action! A thrill ride until the last page!

This book was hard to put down-a roller coaster ride of adrenaline! I felt like I was in the story, or longed to be. It was an easy, fun read! I can't wait for the third book!

The only down-fall for me was the abrupt

The Chase was a fast paced, exciting read that captures the reader's interest from the beginning and never lets go. Having read and enjoyed books by Evanovich before, I wasn't surprised by how much I loved The Chase. It’s hard to find a book or series that is full of humor which has the reader
Show More
laughing out loud, plenty of action to keep the reader guessing what these characters will do next, and enough suspense to keep the reader turning those pages. Nick and Kate are a perfect pair, and their team of crazy characters are a perfect fit for them and whatever con they are pulling next. I absolutely loved the first book in this series, and book two proved to be just as exciting of an adventure. Evanovich and Goldberg have delivered another great adventure in this series, and I cannot wait to see what they come up with next. If you are looking for fun, humor, action, and suspense, then The Chase is the book for you.

I am not a huge fan of multi-volume cops and robbers series, unless of course the books are in the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. The Bosch series happens to be my standard by which I rate other detective novels. Unfortunately, The Chase does not come close to my "Bosch Standard". There
Show More
are few unexpected twists and turns, and the amount of story-line devoted to sexual innuendo, flirtation, and the back & forth quips between the two major characters, Kate and Nick, have me wondering whether this should be classified as a Romance novel. The story was somewhat predictable, and lacked depth.
I will admit that there were many lines that were quite funny, and the writing was not horrible, This is #2 in a series, and admittedly, I have not read #1 (and alas, I probably never will), I just pictured a cheesy 80s type cop show while reading this.
The Chase (even the title lacked vision, as there are many novels with this very same title) is little more than a mildly entertaining piece of fluff to read while waiting at the doctor's office for a scheduled colonoscopy. I give it 2 stars for the few funny and entertaining spots in an otherwise uninspired effort. Picture the A-Team meets Starsky and Hutch.

Nicholas Fox, master criminal, teams up with FBI agent Kate O’Hare to uncover a rare Chinese artifact that is supposed to be returned to China. It’s been in the Smithsonian for years, but nobody knows that the original was stolen years ago and replaced with a copy except for a chosen few. Fox

and O’Hare must locate the original, steal it, break into the Smithsonian, and replace the fake before it is returned. They have little time and a lot of planning and many obstacles!

I have enjoyed Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, but here teaming up with Lee Goldberg has created an action-packed, hysterically funny and sexually charged thriller that will appeal to both men and women. I enjoy the characters and the outlandish situations because it is all for fun. Would make for a good television series.

When I selected this book to review I had no idea that it was the second book in the Fox and O'Hare series. That being said the book was great as a stand alone but I would definitely love to go back and read book one, The Heist.

I'm a huge fan of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books but never cared for
Show More
any of her romance books so I was excited that she ventured into the mystery/suspense genre with a little romantic tension thrown in. Kate is the bad ass that I always hoped Stephanie would progress into but never did.

The Chase was a quick and entertaining read. The characters were lovable and fun especially Kate's dad and his cronies. It isn't a serious mystery or true suspense but it's a lighter version that works well.

I recommend this for all Evanovich fans and anyone who wants a fast, fluffy, easy read.

Oh, what evil men there are in the world. Not our Nick Fox. He's Al Bundy, Remington Steele, or The Saint. And just as caught by our FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare. This is a classic caper story, with several thefts, each one the direct result of the one before and each building toward a satisfying

conclusion. Stolen art is recovered and a very bad man, who is also a politician and a federal security contractor, gets defeated, all of which makes for a very happy ever after for the swecond book in this series.

This was a super fun read. I loved the quirkiness of all the comments between the two MC. Their strange relationship is a blast to read. I think this would be a great read for those who love Castle,

The Chase by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is a 2014 Bantam publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Nick Fox is a crafty thief with expert skills and this gets him a free pass to help the FBI bring down a criminal ring that
Show More
includes none other than Carter Grove , the former White House Chief of Staff. When a priceless Chinese artifact is stolen from the Smithsonian, Special Agent Kate O'Hare gets teamed up with the infamous Nick Fox once again to retrieve the artifact before an international incident blows up.
While the intricate plot unfolds, a wild and incredibly funny caper erupts into a race against time and skilled assassins. The couple end up getting help from some unlikely people that at first glance wouldn't seem like the best crew to have. Kate even runs into her father along the way.
When I first heard that Janet and Lee were teaming up to write a series I knew it was going to be great. I just love the chemistry between the serious and straight laced Kate and Nick, a guy that has the abiliity to go with flow no matter how tense things are. These two make great partners and of course there is more than professional chemistry at work.
"I'm starting to like it ... a lot. "
"I can tell."
"It's not what you think," Nick said. "You're lying on my flashlight."
"Sure, Kate said. "I knew that."
The secondary characters were also terrific. Kate's dad and his geriatric team were hilarious. The evil Carter Grove and his elite team were diabolical and he made a great bad guy.
The humor fit the story and comparisons to the Stephanie Plum novels are not fair. This is a different series, with differenct characters, and a completely different atmosphere. I thought the lines and action were perfect for this type of caper.
I enjoyed this book a lot and I'm recommending it to anyone that enjoys a good old fashioned caper, mystery, light hearted comedy and adventure with just a pinch of romance to put the cherry on the cake. A really fun read!!
This one is a solid A.

Another entertaining entry in the O'Hare and Fox series. This time the FBI agent and master con artist team up to take down a fine arts thief who is politically-connected and very powerful. They enlist the help of their usual cohorts - Boyd, to act whatever part is necessary for the con, Willie to
Show More
drive the getaway vehicle (no matter what it is), and Kate's ex-operative dad, Jake - as well as a few new recruits. The cons are fun and Kate and Nick's attraction to each other is kept mostly on the back burner with Kate still disgusted that she could even begin to be attracted to a criminal in the top ten of the FBI's Most Wanted list. Scott Brick reads too slowly and ponderously for me but, if his awards and accolades are any indication, I'm one of the view audiobook listeners who thinks so!
