This book has lots of interesting designs and is fairly well written. However, it has one major drawback in my opinion, all of the hats are knit flat. Don't know if this was Nicky's idea or the publishers thought the average knitter is incapable of using dpns or circular needles. Most knitters will

probably be able to convert the flat patterns to circular.

Nicky Epstein is as always brilliant and creative. I have knit a number of these hats with success. For the most part, I have toned down the styling a bit (I'm just not that willing to wear a showpiece) but the patterns and ideas are first rate.
There are a number of different shapes to the hats
Show More
herein, as well as various ideas for decoration and embellishment. Many are self-lined, so there is a little extra knitting, but the extra body and wear is worth it. None of the patterns I used in this book required more than advanced beginner skills (and I am a pretty experienced knitter at this point, for reference).
