There is not a lot known about Myles Standish’s early days and personal life, but what is known about him as a captain and soldier can be found in this book. This informational text talks not only about Standish, but the pilgrims who sailed across the Mayflower with him and the hardships that

occurred. Also included is the history leading up to the pursuit of religious freedom. The in-depth history will inform readers of detailed accounts, including what was served at the first Thanksgiving.

One aspect of this book that sets it apart from other informational texts is the detailed time line of things that were happening all over the world while the pilgrims were starting their colony and trying to survive in tough conditions. The book is quite long at 132 pages, and the timeline runs continuously throughout it.
