feature of this book is the comprehensive timeline they have in the back. It's nice to read the story and be able to see the events visually as well. I definitely learned a lot about Dahl from this book. I never knew anything about him other than that he was an author. I also enjoyed the small blurbs of information about Dahl that were scattered through the book. For instance, there was a blurb about how he had all of his teeth pulled and replaced with false teeth.

This was a good beginning biography of Roald Dahl. The book says 5th grade reading level but 3rd grade interest and I would agree. It gives some basic life stories of Roald from childhood to school years to WWII to adulthood. I liked that it didn't shy away from negative things about Roald - like

the fact that he could be mean or critical or that he fell in love with someone while he was still married. I would use it as a good starting point with kids who wanted to learn a bit about Roald Dahl and then steer them towards his autobiographies, Boy and Going Solo.

Who Was... is a biography book series. Who Was Roald Dahl? provides a lot of information about Roald Dahl's life. I knew that Dahl was wealthy growing up, but I didn't know about the tragedies his family endured, and his experiences in boarding schools. Much of the book outlines his early work for

Shell Oil, and his adventures in Africa, and his experiences in the RAF which left him in pain for the rest of his life.
We learn of his marriage go Patricia Neal and his own family joys and struggles.

Dahl's writing career is seen throughout the book. His writing is always part of his life, but it is not all of his life. He has many hobbies his children's books were only part of his writing career.

One of the things I love about this book is the snippets and side stories peppered throughout the story. Everything from the fact that Dahl had most of his teeth pulled because he thought false teeth were easier, to a history lesson about the London Blitz.
