In the introduction to their new cookbook, Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Sally Swift note that a lot of their favorite recipes had to be left out of their last cookbook (How to Eat Supper) because they just took too much time for a weeknight meal. So they had to write this book to fill that gap. The

result is a collection of recipes that take a little work and/or time, but sound just as tempting. They also suggest menus and wine pairings. But the best part of the book is a collection of quotations, stories and tips that have come out of The Splendid Table radio show, some funny, some profound and all of them entertaining to read.

Some of the recipes I'm copying to try at a later date include the homemade ricotta gnocchi with saffron tomato sauce, caramelized pears, oven-roasted carrots with preserved lemon & allspice, and smoked romesco sauce. Can't wait!
