The Winter 2011 issue was a special issue on women and mental illness as told by women in honour of International Women’s Day 2011. Featured inside was a story about Odette who must face the consequences of depression and grow into womanhood as she fights to be part of her daughter’s life; a personal account from a woman who found herself confronted with a terrible trauma just as she was settling into her new life with a baby; an essay that questions how you can be a good feminist if your illness makes you so dependent; a poem told from the perspective of a daughter who vividly recalls one of her mother’s bipolar attacks; and a poem that dictates the manifesto of survivors.
