Excellent. I need to read the whole set of Redstones again - and I've missed at least three - to get the whole story and see what St. John was until this one. But I remember enough - famously silent and competent. The ugly story of what made him that way is beautifully presented here - like most of

the Redstone stories, it's a good story with a romance in it, not just boy-meets-girl and no manufactured conflicts keeping them apart. What keeps them apart, as long as it lasts, flows naturally from the characters and the situation as depicted. Good story, good romance, well-written and extremely enjoyable.

Davis can absolutely rip you to shreds. This felt a little on the thin side though. (Mind you, medium Davis is still very good. I'm ready for her to do something other than Redstone, although obviously there are one or two major stories that need to be told yet.

The problem with

having super rich, uber powerful characters in the background means that the deus ex machina is always there.

Serioiusly damaged tortured hero (possibly very triggery re child abuse.)

The good guys win, the bad guy shows his colors and foams at the mouth at the end. It's a pretty good trip along the way, but a surprisingly slim read for something so heavy.
