Description

Maggie Scott knows better than to trust again. When her marriage deteriorated, she went on the lam. Hiding out in the Pacific Northwest, she thinks she's safe. She even finds herself falling--just a little--for a laid-back boat bum who makes the Puget Sound his temporary home. For Cooper Grant, working as a private investigator simply means more time on his boat--until he meets Maggie. After taking on the job of finding her for the man he believes is her brother, he realizes he's in over his head. And as the perfect storm of danger and deception is thrust upon them, keeping her safe becomes his obsession....

Fun, good, and the excellent characterization I expect from Justine Davis. The different viewpoints were excellent. The slow discovery of the lies - by the reader, and by Cooper and Nell - was beautifully done. Given that it's a romance novel, I had a good idea what the truth would be from the

start, but it still unfolded neatly. Nell's motivations were more of a mystery - not for running, but for being there in the first place; those also unfolded very nicely. The overwhelming attraction was very well handled - strong, but not enough to make either of them change themselves or behave out of character. And the final takedown was excellent - he got a thorough comeuppance and he did it to himself. Though if she knew about the vest her fears were a trifle overblown. And - yeah. Not a wonderful story - mostly because it doesn't lead to a series as far as I can tell - not a patch on Redstone. But a very good romance, and a keeper.
