Description

Fiction. Romance. HTML: Josie Douglas came to the isolated country cottage with her research, a good alibi, and a gun. She hoped that she'd have enough time to unravel the facts behind the tragedy that, years before, had shattered her life. Instead, she found herself in a house haunted by its own dark history. A series of strange coincidences, a ghostly visitor, and a mysterious brass key provide Josie with tantalizing clues to a mystery that keeps her guessing at every turn. Also keeping her guessing is Marc Westbrook, a landlord who embodies the meaning of the term drop-dead handsome. Soon, she'll have to trust him with the secret that drove her into seclusion, a secret that has already cost the life of one man she loved..

Not at all like I what thought it was going to be, a good holiday book, I kept wanting to know what would happen next.

Originally published in 1994 this is a reprint following the success of her newer fiction.

Josie Douglas came to live in an isolated country cottage ostensibly to write a novel, in reality she has a mystery to solve. Her landlord is Marc Westbrook, a gorgeous lawyer recovering from a car accident.

The two of them are attracted from the start with some meddling from Pendragon the cat. When a ghost enters the equation they are both sidetracked into investigating the death of his grand-uncle.

I enjoyed the read, the characters were quite a lot of fun and Pendragon was a lot of fun.

Josie Douglas is a woman on a mission, an important mission. No time to think about romance or men in general. But then she meets her landlord and neighbor, Marc Westbrook. Marc is a criminal defense lawyer in Richmond, staying on the family estate while he heals from a recent car accident. Of

couse the two of them are attracted to one another and Josie tries to fight it and focus on her mission. In the early pages of this short novel a large black cat with very uncat like qualities enters their lives and stranger things begin to transpire. Josie soon finds that the living Marc wants her attentions but so does his very dead ancestor, Luke. Kay Hooper's FBI series is one of my favorites. I have read very few of her romance books as I am not a big fan of romance novels. However this one lured me with a ghost which I am a big fan of. I think she could have toned down the romance and played up the ghost more but overall I really liked the storyline. 4 well earned stars.
