I liked the prologue but then Chapter 1 switches to a different character which threw me until the author mentioned that Caitlyn worked with the prologue's victim. It wasn't until Josh and Caitlyn truly started working on the mysteries behind the three deaths that it became a page-turner for me.

What I liked: It's a clean romance for the main characters--they don't go to bed with one another etc.; that both Josh and Caitlyn have their strengths and skills and use them; Eddie's loyalty to Josh; the guard's loyalty to Josh and willingness to help him even though it was a risk to himself; good suspenseful plot--I didn't have to suspend belief that they'd been attacked as many times as they were and come out unscathed (as I've had to do with some romantic suspense novels); there's a bit more Bible and discussion of Christian faith in this book than in some other books by this publisher in this genre
What I didn't like: A supporting character is having an affair and his meeting up with his mistress is shown in a scene in the book; Quinton's death--I didn't feel it was necessary to advance the plot and it meant losing a character we, as readers, had come to count on; dirty cops; greedy people who want to create a bioweapon
Questions I have:
At no point but especially when Josh is buying supplies for them, he doesn't seem to think about purchasing hair dye or scissors or reading glasses etc. to change one or both of their hair colors or to change one or both of their hairstyles or to try to change their appearances. I think he does grow his facial hair out some--probably more because he's too busy to shave (and didn't buy razors that I remember) but very little is done to try to disguise Caitlyn's appearance. He's a cop so this shouldn't be too far-fetched an idea for him. Quentin doesn't seem to think of this either when he arranges a safe house in Galveston--even though he did lay in some supplies for them (like food).
The charges against Josh seem to go away with a minimum of fuss--I'm not sure that would happen in real life. He really did escape from prison--granted he shouldn't have been there in the first place so I guess that could be an argument for dropping those charges, but for most of us, we'd have to go back to prison while the red tape and paperwork were sorted out (or at least to the prison hospital ward). Josh just seems to get sent home.

liked the suspense plot more than the romance plot. Caitlyn's backstory of a life as a foster child and then living with a relative who really didn't want another child to raise plus the "love of her life" dumping her--thus making it hard for her to trust or rely on others (especially men) felt tired and overused. Though I will agree that in real life, it would take a while to work past that--the reality is, I don't really want to read a fiction book that draws that out as much as this one did. But at least it wasn't a life-threatening event that made her change her mind suddenly. Warning: Spoiler Alert!

I have read several of Lisa Harris's books and have enjoyed each one. I liked Deadly Intentions as well. I felt the plot kept moving and I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen. I felt the suspense part of the book along with the romance part between Josh and Caitlyn was believable. I was

sad when one of the main supporting characters was killed, I wish there would have been another way to show that the "bad guys" would do anything to take care of the loose ends instead of the death of Josh's partner. I would recommend this book and author to others. Show Less

What an inspiring read! The fact that the characters don’t have picture perfect lives is engaging. Lisa Harris does a masterful job of letting her characters wrestle with real life
In a masterful stroke of her pen, Lisa starts the story with her main lead male character, Josh Solomon, having to come upon his wife fighting for her life. From there, we travel with Josh as he handles the fall out from his wife’s choices. He then encounters Caitlyn Lindsey who was just run off the road on purpose. These two characters end up trying to stay ahead of someone intent on them disappearing permanently. In their moments of calm, storm, fighting for justice or life, what rises to the top is their heart and faith. How does one live a life of faith when everyday they see death, greed, destruction and the wrong choices people make that affect the lives of many?
Once you start reading the novel, I am thinking that like me you won’t be able to put it down until you reach the conclusion. It is mesmerizing, entertaining, filled with suspense along with surprising turns in the plot! Whether Lisa’s works are new to you or not, this is one story you’re going to want to spend an afternoon or two relishing!

Deadly Intentions is an exciting and intriguing tale that left me needing to learn more and I found it hard to put down as I searched for the cause of all of this madness. A deadly virus that could be used as a bio-weapon if put in the wrong hands appears to be the motive behind the many murders and now, in their race to find answers, Josh and Caitlyn are apparently the next targets!
Author Lisa Harris has an unique way of showing both the good and evil in mankind and I appreciate that she often shares a faith-based message in her books. In Deadly Intentions, Josh and Caitlyn both pray as they face the dangerous situations but Caitlyn struggles with her relationship with God. 'What was she supposed to do when she couldn't hear God's voice? When she had no idea what to do next?'
Deadly Intentions is filled with excitement, danger, and suspense and there is also the promise of a romance between Josh and Caitlyn. Readers who enjoy romantic suspense and Christian fiction are in for a treat!

Detective Josh Solomon is still mourning his late wife Olivia, whose death was a result of a home invasion gone bad. Or so he thought. When one of Olivia's former co-workers approaches Josh with her suspicions about other deaths, Josh realizes
Wow, this book was BORING. It had a great premise and started off with a bang with a prologue that hit the ground running. I was so excited! Then the writing goes downhill. In chapter 1 we are introduced to Caitlyn. How does author Lisa Harris manage to make the action seem too fast and too slow (and never just right) at the same time? Caitlyn gets run off the road immediately after asking questions at a coworker's funeral. I found this part annoyingly unrealistic. If you really had an evil conglomerate of people needing to keep things quiet, they wouldn't be so obvious. This action is what I mean by "too fast" -- it shouldn't have taken place so soon. But then after this incident all action comes to a screeching halt as Caitlyn thinks about what to do and finally settles on telling Josh. And the entire time she and Josh meet and discuss plans of action, there is absolutely zero action -- all talk. Hence my comment about "too slow."
What I found incredibly frustrating was that there is an inordinate amount of conversation between Caitlyn and Josh with NO plot advancement. The reader is already aware of everything Josh knows, as well as everything Caitlyn knows. So when Caitlyn and Josh get together and have to catch each other up, the author should have just covered that with a simple "They got each other up to speed over coffee." Instead, Harris rehashes EVERYTHING by painstakingly having Caitlyn and Josh explain everything to each other -- everything that the reader already knows and doesn't want to hear again. Good grief. Let's get on with the plot already. There's no need to rehash everything.
By page 65 (the start of chapter 7), I'd given up on the book because it wasn't getting any more interesting. I was bored out of my mind. At this point I started skimming in an attempt to finish the book somehow. Also, Josh's budding attraction to Caitlyn turned me off. His wife had just died a few months ago -- and violently, too, so I would have expected Josh to still be grieving and needing closure before developing feelings for another woman. By page 98 (the start of chapter 11), I gave up entirely and stopped reading. I couldn't stand it anymore; I was so bored. Mind you, this book was 297 pages long, so I got through only 1/3 of it. There's no way I was going to subject myself to 200 more pages.
Also, this book was not promoted as Christian fiction, and it should have been. (In fact, the back cover shows the category to be simply Romantic Suspense, and that is misleading.) Not being familiar with author Lisa Harris, I assumed the book was standard mystery thriller/romantic suspense fare. So I was taken aback when all of a sudden Caitlyn invokes God. This was a huge turnoff. I don't think it is necessary to include these random mentions of God and church in a book of this genre. It feels gratuitous. And not making it clear that this is Christian fiction feels deceptive on the part of the author's marketing team.

Wow this book was intense and amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat through the entire thing.
I loved this plot line and all the twists and turns. It kept me guessing and had my heart racing many times.

Romantic Suspense stories aren’t my usual genre, but every now and then I like to branch out and try something new or unfamiliar. Deadly Intentions being categorized as a Christian-themed story is what initially piqued my interest (more so than the blurb.)

murder, and evil is being perpetrated throughout this read, and we don’t know who to turn to. When past hurts and betrayals flaunt their ugly heads, our girl is not able to open her heart, but Caitlyn needs help and turns to Josh one of the victim’s husbands and a police detective. Can they work together and stop the senseless murder of innocents?This become a read that you need to get the last page for answers, and find the path to justice is full of deep pot holes.

It is another heart pounding fast pace story that will draw readers in from the beginning. The author cleverly hits readers with intrigue that starts from the first page and never lets up. It is not easy to always hold readers attention, but this author has proven to do it book after book.

of some love then this is a great story for you. And if you aren't a Christian but love those stories this is still a great book for you. It is a book where the characters are Christians, who like all of us, have occasional doubts or periods of insecurity. It is not a book that will preach at you or try to convert you. It shows Christians as I see them in my life; well intentioned, imperfect, trying to live as Christ wants us to but not always succeeding.Enjoy this well written mystery. The advantage to reading this if you are not a Christian is it is a clean book, skipping the profanity and bedroom scenes you see in so many other books.

Because of the compelling nature of Ms. Harris’s writing, I was able to read this book through in 5 to 6 hours, at one sitting. Whew! That’s all the excitement I can handle at one time!

Lisa knows how to keep you interested in a story. I stayed up way too late to finish this book. At times I was holding my breath, the suspense was so intense. I liked how the characters interacted with each other, complimenting not detracting. Their faith was mentioned but not overly, preachy. I definitely recommend you read Deadly Intentions. This is one of the best Christian suspense/mystery/romance I have read in a long while. I was hoping there would be a next book to read about Josh and Caitlyn. Highly recommend!

surprised by how twisty the story actually was. I thought I had something figured out, but I didn't. The main characters are complex and have a great dynamic throughout. They are flawed but likeable and entertaining. I enjoyed this one overall and recommend for action romance readers. I will be reading more from this author. Show Less

Can Josh and Caitlyn find the answers they are looking for and escape unharmed?? I found myself questioning everyone and continued to be surprised throughout the book.
