I actually don’t remember anything outstanding about this one. Maybe it’s because I just speed-read through this one. Maybe it’s because I’m not as interested in the were-animal storyline. The whole sniper who’s out to get all the shape-shifters was yawn-worthy, and the pirate bar-tender
Show More
was just too far-fetched. This was one of the weaker books of the series.

(I read the series from book 1-9 in a few days, all is a blur> I like the TV show, so I was expecting some of the same sassy feeling from the books. They started off light and funny, but gradually became darker and more unpleasant. This makes sense for the characters, especially Sookie as she
Show More
becomes more worldly and understands more about the benefits and dangers of her powers. I was never a Bill fan, and Eric lost his, er, bite, after the memory loss book.I'll keep reading, but the glow is gone for me.)

Dead as a Doornail is good. It doesn't have the light, more-humorous tone of its predecessors, but it is action-packed and full of plot. The author ties up several loose ends from earlier books. Like any good writer, she raises more questions and unsolved issues but that's good because I want her
Show More
to keep writing in this series.

Sookie has noticed changes in her brother. If it was uncertain before, its curtain now. Jason would never be the same again. At least not at the full moon. Jason had been bitten by a shapeshifter, a werepanther, and now at every full moon he would change into a werepanther, well a half-man
Show More
half-panther. Jason seemed to be fitting into the werepanther community at Hotshot quite well. That is until a sniper appears.

A sniper is targeting the shapeshifters of Bon Temps, and some of them seen to think Jason may be the shooter. If Sookie can't find the truth before the next full moon the shifters may take matters into there own hands. Will Sookie loose Jason, the only family she has left?

But that's just the beginning of Sookie's problems. There is yet another attempt on Sookie's life, well several attempts to be accurate. The ex-boyfriend to deal with, a number of suitors to contend with, a fire, a beating, a friend in need, a fight to the death, and supernatural politics that Sookie somehow got dragged into.

Another intriguing fast paced story that is impossible to put down. A great mystery that will keep you guessing till the last page. A very enjoyable read.

Sookie Stackhouse is back in the fifth book in the series. Charlaine Harris keeps Sookie right in Bon Temps for this book. Someone is shooting Shifters all over Northern Louisiana, and when Sam becomes a victim, Sookie steps in to find the sniper. Full of mystery and danger. A great installment in
Show More
the series.

Summary: Telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse is used to dealing with the supernatural - she's been mixed up with more vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural beings than anyone could consider safe. But now Sookie really has a reason to worry - not for her own safety, but for her
Show More
brother's. Jason has been bitten by a werepanther, and so he's now one himself, transforming every full moon. That's dangerous enough on its own, but there's a sniper in town who's bent on assassinating shifters, weres, and other two-natured creatures.... and the local shifter community thinks that it might be Jason. So Sookie has her hands fully trying to protect her brother both from the shooter as well as from the other Weres... but the sniper might just be gunning for her, as well.

Review: Another fun Sookie Stackhouse book, although I didn't enjoy it as much as I did Dead to the World or Club Dead. Partly because I thought this one was a little bit more predictable - the solution to one of the mysteries was ringing alarm bells in my head almost from page one - and not quite as fast-paced and action-packed... the plotline involving the Shreveport werewolf pack just wasn't as exciting as it should have been. I also wished there'd been more Jason - I really enjoyed having him around for more than a few pages of the previous book. And more Eric would have been good, too, but you could have a book full of Eric (see: Dead to the World), and I'd still want more Eric.

On that tip, I'm also starting to get a little bit tired of the constant addition of new romantic interests and storylines, without any resolutions of the previous ones. Sookie seems to be collecting hot supernatural men who are obsessed with getting into her pants at the rate of about one per book, and while I am okay with authors leaving some tangly unresolved emotional threads hanging from book to book, doing so with five (soon to be six) guys at once is getting to be a little excessive. Still, these books are tons of fun to read, and are excellent for unwinding at the end of long, busy days when you don't have the brain power to devote to something more serious. 4 out of 5 stars.

Recommendation: Not the best in the series, but still thoroughly enjoyable.

Probably my least favorite edition. I found this book to be boring. The were community has a sniper picking off supes. Sookie finds herself in the middle of a serial shooter showdown. Alongside the sniper plot, Sookie has a series of unfortunate "accidents" that are threatening her life.
All-in-all, nothing important happens in this book.

It was good, and just as addictive, but not my favorite of the series.

I just love this series. Sookie is a strong likable character. Harris has

almost convinced me that vampires really do roam the world and one may be sitting right next to me!

Not bad. I hope that we see more of Quinn. And I'm beginning to feel like there has been no closure with Bill. Hopefully, these will be rectified in the next book.

What's the Southern mystery this time? There is a sniper on the loose who seems to be targeting only shifters (and Sookie, but she has very poor luck). Not only that, but who tried to burn down Sookie's house with her in it? In this book five of the Southern Vampire Mysteries, Dead as a Doornail,
Show More
Sookie is almost burned to death, attacked by wolves during a ceremony, shot in the shoulder, harassed by Eric who desperately wants to know what happened during his period of amnesia, and faced with Bill reentering the dating world. Her friendship is also on the fritz with Alcide. Oh, and if that's not bad enough, she is a suspect in the death of shifter Debbie Pelt, which is probably the only one thing that happens that she actually deserves.

Problems don't belong to only Sookie, though. Jason is a suspect in the shifter shootings (the Stackhouses must be cursed), though he is adapting nicely to his new life as a shifter and, in fact, quite likes it. Tara Thornton, Sookie's best friend, is the unwilling girlfriend to a violent and dominating vampire named Mickey. Alcide has his worries over his father becoming pack leader.

I have to say that the plots are becoming predictable. That's not to say that they're not exciting because they are. It's just that you can almost predict who will be the perpetrator by the first few chapters. I had this one pegged. Of course, it didn't have me put down the book. I still find the Southern Vampire Mysteries very fun, very exciting, and very much worth my time to read. I still love them, yes. If you are looking for a shocking twist at the end, you're not going to find it here because the formula is predictable. I am also a bit disappointed in the turn that Sookie's friendship with Alcide took. I don't think it's too much that the two of them could remain friends and get over their little crush from book three. Instead, the two of them are getting to the point where they can scant stand each the company of each other. I mean, Sookie can have a friend she's not making out with... right?

You can bet as soon as I can, I am going to pick up book six.

Just when Sookie starts to think that she's getting used to the supernatural world she's now a part of, it hits just a bit too close to home when her brother Jason gets bitten by a werepanther and suddenly has new things to do every month at the full moon. And a sniper is loose who has a grudge
Show More
against Weres and shifters. When a couple of Sookie's friends are shot (but not killed), it can't get much worse, can it? Oh, yes it can. Sookie takes a bullet in the shoulder in the library parking lot and the suspicions of the Were community seem to point to her own brother as the shooter. But she knows that, far from carrying a grudge about his new lifestyle, Jason is actually pretty pumped at his new abilities and looking forward to this new life. But the shooter is out there somewhere, and one by one, her friends are being lined up in the sights...

Sookie Stackhouse is a telepathic cocktail waitress. That's strange enough, but she also knows there are more life forms in her Louisiana neck of the woods than meet the eye. Yes, the world in this book now knows that vampires are real, but few realize there are also faeries, werewolves and other
Show More
shape shifters.

In Dead as a Doornail, someone is shooting the local changelings and her brother, recently bitten by a were-panther himself, is the prime suspect. Sookie also finds herself embroiled in the politics of a selecting a new werewolf to lead the local pack.

This book is interesting in that it reads like a mystery, but it is full of vampire/shape shifter culture with twinges of horror. Maybe we could call this fast paced, easy read "soft horror."

Having read or reread all of the books in this series, I was happy to get more info on the were side of things. I was also happy to see how the relationships around Sookie are changing and reforming, not always the way I want, but fun none the less.

The storyline was good, but not one of my
Show More
favorites, and the mystery aspect was back after having been missing from the last installment.

These books are always fun and entertaining. I enjoy the fact I can usually get through them in a day or two, and I can't wait to see what happens with the series down the line.

I read (actually listened to) this without reading the previous book, and it was a little bit sad to have missed some of the earlier action, but it's still a very fun series. Totally worth it--great beach read.

As Sookie's beloved brother is on the verge of turning into a were-leopard, someone starts taking shots at the local paranormals. Sookie needs to convince said locals that it is not her brother seeking revenge.

This is a really good book in an already good series.

Sookie Stackhouse is at it again. Her brother experiences his first “shift” to the supernatural and is loving it, but when shifters start getting shot, he’s one of the first people to be questioned. But figuring out who the shooter is is just one of the troubles Sookie is facing. Her house is
Show More
caught on fire, Bill has a new lady he’s bringing in the bar and since she’s been named a “friend of the pack” to local were pack, she must take part in the ritual to choose a new leader.

This book didn’t really do it for me. I love Sookie and all the twists and turns in the book, but this one didn’t pull me in like the others. I read the first 100 pages in a couple of sittings, but after that it fell off for me.

I think the main turnoff for me in this bok was the ritual of choosing a new were leader. It was very gruesome and although told well, it was just too much for me.

I normally have a lot to say on these, but I’m at a loss for words and not in a good way.

To the point, I give Dead as a Doornail 2 bookmarks and have my fingers crossed that the rest don’t let me down. But, I will say that with the Stephanie Plum series, some books I loved, others I didn’t, so my hopes are still up!

A sniper has been targeting the shape-shifting population of Bon Temps and the surrounding communities. As a new were-panther, Sookie's primary concern is for her brother Jason. But as it turns out, she's also a target, despite the fact that she's only a psychic, not a shifter.

This is the 5th book

in Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries, aka the Sookie Stackhouse books. I enjoyed coming back to this series after not having a chance to read them for the last year or so; it felt like revisiting an old friend. :D Fortunately, Ms. Harris is good at refreshing your memory about past characters and activities so the fact that I didn't have the earlier books here to review before picking this up was not a problem at all. She doesn't go overboard in describing past events, but it's enough to give you a feel for things if you haven't read them, or to bring everything back more clearly if you have.

Unlike Grave Sight, the first book in her newer Harper Connelly series, I was left uncertain all the way until the end of the book as to who the sniper was. And even then, she still managed to throw in an extra twist. I knew there's a good reason these books are part of my personal collection. :)

I finished this one so fast I barely remember what happened. IT WAS AWESOME THOUGH OKAY. Oh yeah, someone's hunting weres and shifters. That's not the only danger in "Dead as a Doornail," but it's the main mystery. This installment actually has a nice mix of a few different subplots, nearly all of
Show More
them interesting.

I have to note that it was nice to finally have a significant supernatural extra show up who did NOT care about sexxin up Sookie. There were at least two of them, as a matter of fact! Both male! I know, amazing!

We have an exclent mystery going on here. People are being shot. Not only in Bon Temps but also in Shreveport, Hotshot and other areas. The police are baffled but Sookie knows the connectioin. They victims are all Shifters. And Jason is being blamed for one of the shootings.

Eric is still trying to
Show More
remember what he did and said to Sookie when he had lost his memory and it makes for some pretty comical scenes. Fangtasia has a new bartender, Charles Twinning, he's a pirate and a gentleman. Claudine makes a few appearances to save Sookie. Seeing Claudine around vamps is just funny.

Enjoy this next chapter in Sookie's life.

This is the fifth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

There is a sniper on the loose with Weres and Shifters as his target. If having her brother scared for his life isn't enough someone also is also gunning for Sookie and sets her house afire with her in it.

This book was really good. Eric is back
Show More
to normal (sigh) but obsessed with what occured during his "down-time". It is chock full of adventure and really fast-paced. It is a great addition to a great series.

I have said this every time but it does good to repeat myself : Read this series in order!

I promised myself that at the end of book four, I'd take a breather before I picked up another Sookie Stackhouse book. That breather apparently consisted of the five hours between me finishing book four on my lunch break and my stopping by Barnes & Noble on my way home from work. And now I've
Show More
finished five books in five days.
Book five of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels feels a little different from the first four. Things aren't focused on past boyfriends quite as much (though Sookie seems to be enjoying keeping information from Eric, who forgets everything that happened while he stayed at her home) and we're also not quite as focused on present loves to the same degree, either. A couple of kisses, sure, but we don't have nearly the same scenes that the last few books included. Instead, we're getting further into the politics of supernaturals. After Jason's ordeal in the last book, Sookie's waiting for his first time changing with the full moon. In addition, there appears to be someone shooting random people around town, including Sam -- though it's not so random when you know that all the victims are supes. Sookie gets Eric to loan her a vampire bartender to pick up the slack at Merlotte's, and the new vamp seems to be a very charming pirate. Alcide practically tricks Sookie into giving her allegiance to his father as a new packleader candidate by being his date for a packleader funeral. And oh yes, Sookie's house partially burns down. A lot is going on, but if you don't know that Sookie's up to the challenge by now, then where have you been for the past four books?

One more thrilling Sookie Stackhouse story. I was surprised that this one was without romance for the most part - the book lost nothing with it's absence. This one was twisty! I was excited to see the townspeople have turned around - somewhat - can't wait to see what happens with the "tiger" in the
