I love the way Holly Jackson writes her stories; there is always drama, angst, and a really good plot. As in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, this story kept my interest from beginning to end. There was always a connection with the characters even though at times I despised some of them and their actions. I consider it a good read when I find myself invested in the characters and how they will ultimately end up. I can't wait to read more of Holly Jackson's writing.
Based on the book’s title, I had a good idea that one of the six on the trip in the RV was not going to make it home. I didn’t know who it was going to be but I sure knew who I hoped it would be pretty early on. I guess it is safe to say that one of these characters rubbed me the wrong way from the start. We see everything from Red’s point of view and I thought that she was a great character, although she had a few secrets of her own. I couldn’t wait to see how this group would handle everything being thrown at them. This book had plenty of action and a whole lot of secrets to keep things interesting.
Emma Galvin did an amazing job with the narration of this audiobook. She brought the story to life and quickly became the voice of Red for me. I thought that she did a great job of adding just the right amount of emotion into her reading. I found her voice to be pleasant and I had no problem listening to this book for hours at a time.
I would recommend this book to others. I thought that this was an exciting story that kept me guessing until the very end. I hope to read more of Holly Jackson’s work very soon.
I received a digital review copy of this book from Delacorte Press and Listening Library.
If I had to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the book because of what I was hoping it would be. I absolutely loved A Good Girls Guide to Murder and I wanted another story like that. That was not what this book was like at all. If you loved the investigative aspect of Good Girls Guide, you won't find it in this book due to the difference in storylines.
If you have ever read my reviews before, you know I am not a fan of language in books especially ones written as young adult novels. This particular story had way too many uses of the f word in my opinion, but I know that is a personal preference of mine and language is not an issue for a lot of readers.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
What ensues is a round robin of blame, paranoia, and hysteria. Someone on the bus is alleged to have a secret the sniper demands, but who? Every time you think you're about to find out, that red herring swims off, leaving you even more perplexed. The ramp up of tension before the unveiling is pretty intense and leaves you limp. This is a great twisty tale.
very suspenseful and a quick read but some of the twists aren't that surprising; however there are still plenty more twists to keep one guessing.
None of the characters were very likeable, but Oliver was the worst. He was totally obnoxious and a real bully.
While I don't think "Five Survive" was as good as the "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" series, it was still a gripping read with an intense ending.
Six friends are driving from Pensylvania to South Carolina for spring break. When their (rented) RV breaks down in a rural area with no cell reception they find themselves in danger. Tires shot out, gas tank as well, they find themselves in a no win situation.
One of
A fanstastic edge-of-your-seat compelling thriller. Moving at a fast pace builing to a slow burn. Shocking moments, events and secrets I did not see coming. I was guess until the end.
Overall I enjoyed Five Survive and highly recommend to Holly Jackson Fans. Suitable for Young Adult as well as Adults reads. A good read.
