I enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. The reluctant hero theme isn't unusual, but Watt-Evans carries it off very well. The hero is very well done and the book is well written. It isn't the greatest fantasy around, but it is much better than you'd expect if you aren't familiar with his books.

Was that ever a slog! Too little story even with betrayals and treacheries for a fashionably thick book - and almost no lightness and humor. The doesn’t want to be a hero hero is not in itself enough to carry a story and the side characters and villains were never of any interest.
