A Dandelion's Life is an informational text that gives a detailed description of the life of a dandelion. It covers the sequence of events including the physical transformation of the flower, how the flower spreads it seeds and other life forces that impact the life of a dandelion.

I really like
Show More
this text. It has very life like illustrations that would be easily compared to real dandelions. The author does a wonderful job of describing the different stages of the life of a dandelion without using too difficult vocabulary. This booke could be used with a variety of ages. For early primary students the book could be read aloud and then the class could review the information together. For older students you could get multiple copies of the books and let them explore.
Classroom Extensions:
1) Have students create a flip book that goes through the life of a dandelion.
2) Have students disect flowers in class and find the diffferent parts of the flower and compare those to a dandelion.

This informational book gives details about the life cycle of a dandelion. This story describes the germination process and the growth the flower. In the story the dandelion is visited by many insect during its transformation. The book goes on to show what happened to the dandelion in the winter.

I
Show More
found this story to be interesting and easy to read. I liked the pictures of the different insect that visited the dandelion. This is a good book to read to kids that will teach them the life cycle of a dandelion. Kids will love this book because we all know this is the one flow they cannot resist!

This book can be used in a science classroom. After reading this story I would have students label the different parts of a flower. Students could write about the differences between a weed and flower. For an art project I would have student to use color chalk and draw a picture of a dandelion on black construction paper.

Most children have played with the Dandelion Weed's seeds by blowing them. This informationl story about the life cycle of the prolific weed can help children learn about maybe they sholud not blow them!
It is an up close look at the bugs and animals that help spread the flower seeds. The book
Show More
starts from it sprouting until it dies.

What I liked about the book is how the illustation made me feel i was seeing it drom the Dandelion's point of view. I have to admit it is something so pretty about the seeds when they are blowing in the wing. As long they are not going into my yard.
I also like how the end of the book has a index for vocabulary words used in the story, and it was almost like a science text but easier to read.

1. In the classroom, the students can bring plant seeds to watch grow.

2 Give the students worksheets that require them to fill in the blank of plant parts.

Summary:
This is a book that explains the life of a Dandelion. Its a cute story that starts off with the seed flying through the air and catches a ride with a squirrel and finally falls into the soil and the Dandelion starts to grow. It then tell how the animals love the nectar and how it closes at
Show More
night and blooms in the morning. Finally the it is time for the flower to go and so it turns into a fluffy ball of seeds and it starts all over again.

Personal Reaction:
I thought this was a cute book to teach kids about how the process works. I think the kids would understand it more by this book than if they were to just read a science book.

Classroom Extensions:
1) This would be a great book for a lesson on flowers.
2) It would be really fun to take your class on a nature walk and let the kids see the Dandelion's whether they be bloomed or seeds.

It was an interesting book about the life cycle of a dandelion. At one time there were no dandelions in North America, however, it was brought over on the fur of stow-away rats and on the pants of sailors. Now they are prolific in almost all yards. Many insects visit the dandelion for nectar. The
Show More
dead dandelion head is replaced by a fuzzy ball of seeds that children love to blow.

Personal Response: This book would be wonderful to use when explaining the the life cycle of plants. Mr. Himmelman did a great job with the illustrations of the plant and the insects too.

Classroom Extensions:
1.This book can be used in science when instructing on the life cycle of plants. It would be good around mother's day when the students could plant flower seeds and experience the growth from seed to beautiful plant to take home in decorated cups to their moms.
2.As a class we could do an experiment by having plants in the sunshine and putting some in complete darkness and see which ones thrive and those that do not thrive.

Summary:
This book tells a story about how a dandelion lives its life. The book begins talking about the seeds on a dandelion and how they spread from the wind. Then those seeds get put into the ground and grow out the next spring as the yellow dandelion flower. Bugs like the yellow flower’s sweet

nectar. Then when the dandelion is ready it pushes it seeds out and begins the process all over again.

Personal Reaction:
I thought this book was cute! This is something very simple and easy for a child to understand and to also teach about the life cycle. Kids love going out in the spring time and picking up the dandelions and blowing the seeds off. I know I did as a kid and that’s something nearly any kid can relate to.

Extension Ideas:
1) Have the class walk outside and see if they can spot any dandelions whether it is the yellow flower or the seeded flower that they can blow the seeds off of.
2) Have this book as an introduction to the life cycle to be able to discuss different life cycles in plants or animals.

Summary: This book talks about a dandelion's life and the process it goes through. It talks about how seeds blow through the wind then eventually a dandelion grows and a yellow flower forms that attracts bugs then later on the dandelion produces seeds of its own that fly through the wind causing
Show More
more dandelions to grow.

Personal Reaction: I feel like this is a good book for children because living in Oklahoma it's hard to go anywhere in the spring without seeing dandelions everywhere and after reading this book they'll finally recognize them and be able to name them and tell their parents all they learned about this plant. It's a book that children can take something from

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. You could have children go outside and find dandelions and other "flowers" they see and try to find the names of those and look up their history
2. You could have your children plant flowers of their own after learning more about flowers and what flowers need such as water, air, and sunlight.

Summary: The book gives information about the life cycle of a dandelion. It shows the dandelion starts as a seed and finishes as all kinds of little white fluffy seed that blow in the wind. The book illustrates this so the reader can actually see the cycle and see that once the seeds blow away more

will grow in their place.

Personal Reaction: The book allows children to see the life of a dandelion without making it dry and boring. The book provided interesting situations of what may occur during the life of a dandelion.

Classroom Extension:
1. Each student can plant a dandelion outside the classroom and watch it grow through the school year.
2. The class can go on a walk to find dandelions outside.

Summary: This book illustrates the life of a dandelion seed, from the time it leaves a dandelion to the time it creates ts own seeds. Throughout the book we different animals and seasons which impact the plant.

Personal Reaction: I really didn't have any strong feelings toward this book, other than
Show More
the fact that information is provided in a simple, easy to follow way for children, which I liked.

Classroom Extensions:
1. Use this book as a small intro to ecosystems. How do the actions of one animal affect the life of another plant or animal? How did the dandelion grow with the help of or in spite of the plants and animals around it?

2. Look at the different parts of a dandelion. Compare it to pictures of other flowers and weeds. What makes it different and what are its different parts? Have students draw and label a dandelion.
