The disappearance of Amelia Earhart is still a mystery today. This picture book illustrates the unusualness of Amelia’s life from childhood. Her parents were progressive and allowed her to wear trousers like boys when she played. She was always encouraged to try new things and seemed to be
Show More
unconcerned with what everyone else thought. The story follows Amelia from the first time she saw an airplane to her first ride. It gives an account of Amelia as a navigator on her first flight across the Atlantic with Charles Lindbergh as the pilot, to her final flight and mysterious disappearance. There is an author’s note at the back further detailing her final flight and disappearance.

I would not say this is a great book, but it is a good story. The story is an overview of Amelia’s life and does not go into great detail about it. It is a good introduction to Amelia Earhart and the pictures are enjoyable. It is informational and does make you wonder anew at Amelia’s disappearance.

I would use this book as part of unit about women in history. It is an interesting story and tells of how Amelia Earhart helped to open the door in aviation for all women. You could also use this story in teaching about aviation history.

This is a biography on Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Pacific Ocean. She was also the first of much more; however, she died trying to be the first to fly around the world.

Appropriate for Kindergarten students. This picture book shows the life and flight of Amelia Earhart. The pictures allow the students to help the teacher tell the story by what they see in the pictures.
* Excellent book for read-aloud as a class
* Students can make their own picture books.

Amelia Earhart was a typical tomboy of her time. She shot guns, played sports, and wore bloomers instead of dresses. Amelia quit college to become a nurse in Toronto, Canada. The war had a huge effect of her. This book tells the story of Amelia's journey to flight. Adler discusses all the events

that led up to her big journey. I think this book would be perfect for a child to reference for a biography project because it is filled with factual information.

An inspirational story of a woman that changed the patriarchal view of the world. Amelia Earhart was a courageous woman and the first female to fly an airplane across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart disappeared during her voyage around the world, somewhere within the Pacific Ocean.

This book tells the story of Amelia Earhart, the first woman who flew across the Atlantic Ocean in an airplane. I think it's really sad that she and her husband disappeared in the Pacific Ocean. She was a powerful woman and I'm sure she has been an inspiring example for many other women. A very

I think that this book was very descriptive and told a great depiction of the Amelia Earhart. I think that the author did a great job of explaining each event and adding detail to how the event felt to the people around in the time era. I think that the big message is to always try and pursue one's
Show More
dreams even when everyone is saying that it will never work out. For example, Amelia was the first woman pilot. I like that the author made her sound like a normal human and not some out of this world hero that is impossible for anyone to compare to. She was a nurse, a wife and a loyal friend. Although she did an extravagant and world changing thing, she was still an amazing young lady who lived a somewhat normal life. Another aspect I enjoyed about this book was that that illustrations filled the entire page and included a lot of color and detail. The only pages of illustration that I did not enjoy was when Amelia was in a parade after she flew across the Atlantic Ocean. The text says that everyone was cheering and congratulating her, but the picture shows faces that look solemn and calm. I think that the illustrator should have shown more expression and drawn the people that were leaning out of their office windows to catch a glimpse and to throw down confetti in celebration. But other than those pages, I think the illustrations matched well with the text and showed the correct emotions throughout.

A Picture Book of Amelia Earhart by David Adler is an interesting biography of the childhood of Amelia Earhart. The book focuses mainly on the childhood of Amelia Earhart. The book depicts her adventurous exploits. These exploits include: firing a riffle at barn rats and building a roller coaster
Show More
out of fence railing and using roller skates as well as dressing in boomers instead of the dresses that were more acceptable fashion. Amelia would explore several careers such as social work, engine repair and even medical research before entertaining her love of air flight. Amelia ended up being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic before disappearing never to be seen again.

I enjoyed this book. I believe the book demonstrates to girls that they can accomplish anything if they set their minds to it. This book encourages the reader to continue to explore and be curious about the mystery of Amelia's disappearance.

Story extenders could include: making and designing paper airplanes, discussing the history of air flight, adding picture cards of airplanes and playing various games with them such as matching or memory. For music the children could pretend they are airplanes and "fly around the room.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Many biographies are long and boring and filled with too many pointless dates and facts. This book was very short and to the point. This book would be great for an elementary school child because the vocabulary was understandable and the language was not too
Show More
advanced.

The author had an interesting technique of putting some of Amelia Earhart’s own words into the book. This made a better connection between the reader and the story. Through her story, the reader can tell Amelia’s dedication and perseverance to do what she loves. Even though she loves flying, she still sold her plane to buy a car because family was also important to her. This shows the reader a lot about choosing family over a passion or a dream that you may have.

The illustrations were very detailed when they showed the pictures of the places. Students could compare and contrast places from then to now. They could also make a timeline of events from the story to see how much time passed between events, how old she was when the bought her plane and other events. If a child has been on a plane, they may think it is interesting that it took many years to perfect one enough to fly over the ocean and now planes are flying all over the world without hesitation.

Since I am reading Amelia Lost for my literature circle book, I decided this picture book would be a good predecessor. I liked this book because the author gave a succinct overview of Amelia's life and what led her to become a pilot. The writing style was organized and effective in presenting a
Show More
large amount of information in a small book. I did not like the illustrations because I didn't feel that they added anything to the book. Amelia was a real person and, therefore, it would have been nice if the author included real pictures of her life instead of drawings. The purpose of this book was to give an overview of Amelia Earhart's life.
