You know you've got a great series when after you've finished the 8th book to a series you're still craving more! I finished this book in one go. I could not put it down. Of course I didn't finish reading until 3a.m. which left my heart pumping and too scared to even want to sleep or be in the

dark. I LOVE this series!

I was a little skeptical after I read the last book in the Last Apprentice series, Rise of the Huntress. Well, okay, so I've been a little skeptical about this series for the past two-ish books. I've been a big fan ever since the beginning. The uniquely dark, scary and downright awesome nature of

this series completely intruged me, and I felt like this series finally got witches and monsters, etc. right -they are to be feared and controlled more than anything else. Delaney's quick, crisp writing and fast-paced plots certainly helped. But, I feel like the story has been going around in circles for a little while now, almost like we're stuff in a cycle of side stories! But, Rage of the Fallen put things back on track with an explosive and game-changing ending.

Still far from the county, the Spook, Tom and Alice come to a town with a big problem -not to mention some dark secrets of its own. As Tom and co. work to get rid of the town's monster problems, Alice is kidnapped and taken to the realm of the Fiend, where no mortal dares go -or returns from. With the help of a strange old god, Tom seeks a way to bring Alice back while fighting off Grimilkin, the infamous witch assassin, dark cults and even the Fiend himself in a showdown that will change the very future of the dark.

As fast-paced and eerily haunting as Last Apprentice fans expect, the overarching plot finally moves ahead in Rage of the Fallen in very serious ways. Not only does he finally deal with the Fiend, but Alice goes through some interesting and unexpected character growth that will leave a mark on her for the rest of the series. I was so incredibly pleased to see this, as it seems to have been an issue with this series recently. For a good portion of the novel I was actually a little worried it may end up as an side story, but once the action really started to take off, I found that I was dead wrong.

As dark, creepy and thoroughly exciting as previous novels, Rage of the Fallen gave me renewed faith in the Last Apprentice series and left me desperate for more!

Tom has just about everyone after him in the latest installment of The Last Apprentice series! The sister of a witch he killed with Bill Arkwright, the Morrigan, and of course the Fiend. I'm surprised Grimalkin isn't after him. Each enemy is dealt with in various ways that connect with each other,
Show More
coming about like the domino effect. But with consequences they were aware of, but had hoped wouldn't come about. Tom keeps moving closer to the dark in order to fight it, which of course Old Gregory has issues with, but ends up going along in the end.

With only one year left until his apprenticeship is over it'll be interesting to see how everything progresses, and where things will go now. With Grimalkin's help, Tom has bought time to find an overal solution to the problem of the Fiend, but also gained even more enemies among the dark than he had before. And I definitely can't wait to see what happens between Tom and Alice now.

This is book eight in the Wardstone Chronicles, to see the order of all the books, go here. A new book will be out in October, although I think it is just a companion novel about Grimalkin, which should be interesting!

*Spoiler Alert*
Enjoyed this 8th book in the Spook's series. More battles against the dark for Tom and Alice, the Spook, Grimalkin and the characters they meet along the way.
I particularly liked the part where everyone fought to bind and behead the Fiend. Fantastic detail and made me feel like I was

there alongside them.
Great characters, well written and a good plot. Enjoyable instalment.

Though the story is really great; I feel that it's getting really old. The loss of many characters has made the last few books really hard to get through. I've really mourned the absence of a few key elements.
Grimalkin has been an excellent character, and I have liked the fact John Gregory is

steadily recovering in spirits. If anything get ready for another creepy read that will keep you up until you finish it.
Cheers and Happy Readings!

I think this could have been the best of Joseph Delaney's "Last Apprentice" (Wardstone Chronicles) books so far. The action was just right, and it had my daughter and I loathe to put it down because we simply *had* to know what happened next--for the whole book. I really cannot wait until his next

book comes out because this one left us with another cliffhanger. : ) Joseph Delaney is probably one of the best descriptive writers I've ever read. He never over describes a scene or location, but always, very succinctly gives you exactly the information you need to visualize where the characters are and what they are facing. I've read many books that I end up skipping paragraphs of descriptive prose and I've never found Delaney to have a spare word. Excellent writer.

I really enjoyed this one! Learning more about the Dark and that there are different sections where different beings preside was super interesting. Honestly, the last book felt dialed in and I'm glad that it was just that one that didn't click with me. I was worried that the whole series was going

downhill.

Local notes

The Spook, Tom and Alice travel to Ireland, fleeing from the war in the County. There, Tom must tackle a group of evil mages who are desperate to rid their land of the Spook and his apprentice, and to increase their own dark powers. His dangerous mission against the mages leads Tom to the Destiny Blade - a sword with a dark side, and a thirst for blood. If he's to survive, he'll need training, and only one person can help - Grimalkin, the witch assassin.

Grrr, they changed the size of these books again.
