Solid, engaging and witty follow-up to Dragon Slippers. I adore the main characters and am willing to forgive George for straining my credulity with a somewhat thin plot. The sheer joy that infuses this book makes it worth reading. I think this is a lovely series for middle-schoolers. And me.

In this sequel to 2007's Dragon Slippers, Creel and her friends are once again save Feravel from evil. This is a fast-paced, humorous, fantasy with a strong, likeable heroine.

I really loved this sequel to Dragon Slippers. (I'm kinda hoping for a 3rd book eventually). This one involves another situation with dragons being controlled, a little more romance, a bit less sewing. A must-read for dragon lovers.

Dragon flight is the second book in the dragon adventures series. In this book Creel, a seemtress who is friends with the prince and many drangons, helps stop the evil Krashath. A country named Citatie is planning to conquer Feravel and any contries inbetween. The thing is the entire army is
Show More
mounted on drangons. Creel and her friends Marta, and Tobin go to Citatie to meet prince Luka, but with them are the Dragons Niva, Amarcarin, and Feniul. When they get there they discover that all the dragons that the Citaties have have been collared so that the soldiers can control them. They et one free by cutting off the collar who releases many other dragons with collars. They also find out that the king of Citatie is being controlled by Shardas's evil brother Krashath. Shardas is baddly injured but still flyes over to Citatie to kill his brother but his winges are badly wounded so creel and marta make him some. In the end Shardas defeates his brother and the war between collared and uncollared drangons stops, because Shardas ans Velika king and queen of dragons. King Caxel of Feravel athough banishes drangons from Ferval and they move to the Far Islands which every one thinks are just rocks, but are actually a paradise.
I loved this book and i think others should read it to. Although you have to read the first in the series or you would not understand much. It is an awesome book and all the name are imaginative. Plus if you don't know how to say one of the words there os a little index in the back of the book. Each of the caracters has their own personality and that is really great. Every thing is vary disciptive and you can really see the movie in your mind. It is a wonderful book.

Dragon Flight, a novel by Jessica Day George, is about the adventures of a young girl named Creel. Creel starts out as a simple dressmaker, but she has a secret. She can communicate with the King of Dragons, Shardas. Shardas and his queen, Velika. Unknown to almost all of the other dragons, Shardas
Show More
and Velika are still alive. They were presumed to be dead after the first dragon war. Then Creel gets some frightening news.
The neighboring kingdom, Citatie, is harnessing dragons using magical collars. A huge white dragon, Krashath, is controlling the king who is in turn commanding the soldiers who control the dragons.
Creel turns to Shardas, who decides to help. Creel goes with three other dragons to spy on Citatie. But when Creel learns about Krashath and tells Shardas, the King of Dragons decides to fight Krashath. Barely making the flight on his tattered wings, Creel improvises by making Shardas a new set of wings out of silk. In an epic battle, Shardas defeats Krashath and the dragons surrender.

This book is the second in a series, and I was very excited to read it and was not disappointed. As a great lover of dragons, I was drawn into this book very easily and could not put it down. I loved the descriptive parts, and the sad parts the most since the author described them quite well. In addition, I loved that the author put many humorous lines in the book as well. All in all, I loved this book and cannot wait until I can read the third one.

I loved this book. Jessica Day George is an amazing writer. You get so caught up in the story and find it difficult to put it down. I kept wanting to know what happened next. I loved the interaction between Creel and the dragons. I also loved the romance between her and Prince Luka. It was
Show More
wonderful to revisit with the secondary characters such as Marta and Tobin. I also love how Creel wins over Velika with her kind heart. The dragons were wonderful, especially Shardas, Velika and Feniul. All in all, another amazing book from this talented writer.

Great sequel to Dragon Slippers, which I loved. Not a whole lot of character development, more just an adventure for our characters. As such, it succeeds. There was just the right blend of humor, action, romance (very light), and all of our favorite characters were there. It was nice to see the
Show More
wedding. (No, not Creel and Luka's.*sigh*)The best news is that there is a third book forthcoming, to be published in Spring 2009!!!!! Which I am really looking forward to procuring at the earliest possible juncture.

Just as good as the first. New exciting adventure, with another Dragon War, and we also learn a lot more about the dragons, both their culture and their physical selves. Creel is still, definitely, the heroine, but Marta plays a major role throughout. And then the stupid...or maybe not completely
Show More
stupid...ultimatum at the end - Miles has a point, but it was presented exactly the wrong way. And a happy ending - two of them, even. Or several - there's the dragon romances as well. Next!

Okay, so maybe this doesn't quite live up to the brilliance that is Dragon Slippers, but...dang. It's pretty dang good.

In the beginning I was skeptical. The plot seems a little ridiculous and maybe a tad repetitive. A few of Creel's plans are far-fetched and it's more than a small miracle that most
Show More
of them work. Don't get me started on Marta leaping from dragon to dragon... although that's pretty awesome, skeptics aside.

I still love Creel and Tobin and Luka and Shardas and all the dragons. That's a big bonus of this book: all the dragons. We get to meet so many new dragons and learn more about the dragon culture. And while this usually decreases the awe factor of dragons, Jessica Day George made it work.

And you know what else she never seems to fail at? Endings. She has the magical ability to write brilliant endings. I mean, wow. WOW. I love Luka so much. Wow.

Likable characters, adventure, friendships, danger and a war to save her country all keep Creel, our heroine, busy.

Even though Dragon Slippers didn't end on much of a cliffhanger, I loved it so much that I had to read the next book in the series. Dragon Flight may not be as good as the first book (hard to beat the awesome twist on dragon folklore), but it comes very close. I had a hard time deciding which one I
Show More
enjoyed more.

There is a lot more action throughout the story with all the battles that take place. As a result, it is a little more violent than the previous book with all the dragons fighting each other and either getting injured or dying. There are also some humans who die as well when they are stabbed or get shot with arrows. However, it is nothing that is too gruesome or too inappropriate for young readers.

Throughout Dragon Slippers there were some relationships developing, which develop even more in this book. There is more hugging and kissing, but again I don't think it is that bad. It happens quickly, isn't focused on so much that it takes away from the story, and can be skipped over if reading aloud, if necessary.

The one thing that makes this story awesome is all the dragons! There are thousands in this book, and the ones that Creel know develop more as the story moves forward. They almost become too human in some parts of the story, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You get to learn more about Shardas and some of your other favorite dragons.

After reading parts of the book where dragons use alchemy I realized that there is no explanation as to how they are able to do so. I suppose it is hinted that maybe they learned it from Shardas's previous human companion, but I'm not sure.

Overall, it was a great story and I enjoyed the little twist with the King and his dragon. It would be a great read for anyone who loved the first book! I can't wait to read the next one. Just be sure to read Dragon Slippers before enjoying this book!

I do love these fairy tales.  So neat that Creel's sewing skills are so handy in the adventures. I would read the first book first for sure, but even if you can't or have forgotten it, there's enough (integrated) recap here.  Interesting author's note about why the unplanned sequel was written,

and pronunciation guide.  I will def. try to read the third... off to order it now....

This is the second book in the Dragon Slippers trilogy. I really loved this sequel to Dragon Slippers. These are such wonderful fantasy books and are so much fun to read!

Creel has been making a good living as a seamstress, but when word comes of an army of dragons preparing to invade she jumps
Show More
right into the action.

I just love all the characters and dragons in these book so much. There is a lot of action and intrigue and magic. The book is incredibly easy to read, engaging, and just so much fun.

This book ends at a good spot and I read the whole thing in just a couple sittings. It is a short and sweet read, I love the world and the story.

Overall this was an amazing continuation to the Dragon Slippers series. I would recommend to those who enjoy fantasy and dragons. This is a fun and engaging read with excellent world-building, characters, adventure, and intrigue.

(Second of 3(so far): Dragonslippers series. Fantasy, children's)
(LT recommended)

Mistress Creelisle Carlbrun, heroine of the Dragon War of Feravel and known to her friends (and us, if we've read the first book) as Creel, is bored.

She has got her almost-happily-ever-after ending and is now helping
Show More
her friend Marta with her wedding trousseau, until word comes of dragons amassing for war in the distant country of Citatie. Creel feels impelled to act on behalf of her dragon friends and jumps headlong into another adventure. (There; hopefully there aren't too many spoilers in case you haven't read the first book.)

Though it is suitable for children (with just the slightest blush of romance), Day George writes well and doesn't patronise. It is about war, so there are some deaths, and there are some moral dilemmas, but they don't weigh down the story.

I like Creel because she's not too perfect to be believable and she's also not a superhero who solves all the problems by herself; she needs the help of her friends, and they're just as feisty as she is. They are not just background characters to Creel's story, even though the narrative is in the first person.

I think it's possible to read Dragon Flight without having read Dragon Slippers; events follow on from those in the first book, but are not dependant on them. Apparently Dragon Slippers was not supposed to have a sequel, but here it is; and now, I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

Endorsing the recommendation of other LTers for Jessica Day George's books.

Apparently I've been in the mood for plucky, intelligent, slightly irascible heroines, and this series delivers.

With the Dragon Wars over, Creel finds herself bored with life as a seamstress. Then word comes that a bordering country has been breeding dragons in preparation for an invasion. Never one to miss out on the action, Creel throws herself headlong into an adventure that will reunite her with Shardas, the king of the dragons, pit her against a vicious new dragon, and perhaps rekindle a friendship with Prince Luka.
