A nice little testament to the benefits of just asking for what you want.

Elephant has a problem: a bird is on his head making a home! Can he and pal Piggie solve the problem? Another charmer from celebrated author and illustrator Mo Willems. Willems' illustrations are deceptively simple-- the nuance he manages to create with just a few lines on an eyebrow or a wrinkle

on a nose help young readers develop a sophisticated palate for emotional awareness. But of course, Elephant and Piggy give their fair share of big gags and bigger laughs. Color-coded speech and thought bubbles help new and pre-readers follow the words, and the pictures parallel and complement the text without any sense of redundancy. Very good for visual learners, for kids who like animation, and a great way to introduce young kids who don't like to read to the joys that books can bring.

Elephant has a bird on his head . . . 2 birds on his head . . . a nest and two birds . . . 3 eggs, a nest and 2 birds . . . 3 chicks, a nest and 2 birds. Elephant does NOT want 3 chicks, a nest and 2 birds on his head. Piggie helps him solve his problem.

Really fun early reader that is a great read aloud. Elephant and piggie have become favorites in my house. Expressions and feelings are terrifically illustrated while keeping story simple.

In this book, two love birds take shelter upon Elephant’s head, building a nest and having chicks of their own. As his irritation grows steadily, Piggy watches, awe struck by the sentimentality of love. But, when elephant asks the kind pair to leave, they take refuge upon piggy’s head. The
Show More
artwork is good; the lack of background plays well, leaving the characters to standout in the midst of a blank page. The storyline continuity is good too, as it starts with one bird, to two birds, to their nest, to their eggs, and to their chicks, taking the reader gradually through until finality. I found the dialogue and storyline itself to be humorous and cute. The book as a whole brought a smile to face as I flipped through its pages, and would do the same for any child.

This is a very cute, funny book. I especially like the expressions on the character's faces - they are hilarious.

A good story about being pessimistic and or optimistic. The elephant and the pig do a great job defining who is who for these roles. I wasn't a huge fan of knuffle bunny by Mo Williams, but I loved this one. I think he's in line to be the next Dr Suess.

This is a very cute book for early readers. Its a great book to show both sides of being a pessimistic and or optimistic. I think Mo Willems could be the next Dr. Seuss.

A bird comes and builds a nest of Gerald's head. Piggie tries to provide support.

This book has simple text and illustrations. A funny story about two friends, an elephant and a pig, and birds building a nest on elephant's head. A great story about friendship. The expressions on elephant's and pig's faces are comical.

This was such a funny book! I think that kids would love it because so many easy reader books are not funny, and this one really is. I loved the facial expressions of pig and elephant and their diaglogue was great!

Another is this great Elephant and Pig series by Mo. As Elephant becomes more and more frustrated at the situation he's in, a simple, polite request from Pig saves the day.

Muted illustrations outlined in pencil belie how entertaining this book is. Playing off of the universally accepted idea that stories about opposites are funny, Willems gives us Gerald, the curmudgeonly elephant, and Piggie, the carefree pig. Some birds come to roost on Gerald's head, which might
Show More
not be exciting if it weren't for the expressions on the faces of both Gerald and Piggie. When Piggie speaks, his words appear in a pink thought bubble. For Gerald, the thought bubble is gray.

There Is a Bird On Your Head is simple story with a lot of spunk. Through this short story, the reader can determine the personalities of both main characters and gets a great look at their dynamic relationship. The basic yet expressive illustrations echo a less busy Dr. Seuss style of work, and

they are a lot of fun to look at!

This is a wonderful introduction into easy books that are longer than your average picture book. Because there is not too much happening on each page, it would help a young reader to become less overwhelmed when reading a book that is more than a handful of pages.

This story is a wonderful modern fantasy story because it is about the friendhsip between a funny, sentimental pig and serious, careful elephant. This story is great for beginning readers because the sentences are short and simple, and phrases are often repeated in the forms of questions and

exclamations. Chidlren will find the contrast in personalities between the elephant and pig to be quite funny, especially as they solve the ridiculous problem of there being birds on the elephant's head.

I think that this is a great book for beginner readers. The sentences are short and should be a easy read for beginner readers. This story is about an elephant and a pig who has totally different personalities. As this friends team together to solve the problem of a bird building a home on the

Great illustrations with word bubbles. I love the pig's face when he says "they're in love". The elephants reactions to the "straight man" pig are fun, and elicit a reaction. There is a Bird on Your Head has a funny ending, and helps kids to learn that they can ask when they get frustrated.

A humorous book about friendships and the development of birds going from eggs to full grown birds. The vocabulary used is a great tool for developing phoneme and motor skills.

Short but sweet. Poetry. Very silly! Perfect for new readers.

One of a dozen of charming early readers featuring the dynamic duo of Elephant (Gerald) and Piggie. The dialogue is simple, yet clever. The author's use of grey (for Gerald) and pink (for Piggie) speech balloons make this text easy for young children to read alone or with a partner. Many of the

exchanges between the characters feature the repetition of familiar ocabulary and sentence structures, making this an excellent choice for a first reader.

Who doesn't love Elephant and Piggie? This is a popular collection in our house as my daughter loves to read them over and over and over again (age 6) and feel very confident about her reading. The font and expressions of the characters even allow her to read with lots of expression and get a good

Mo Willems definitely has a fun sense of humor, and it comes out it "There is a Bird on Your Head!" Gerald the Elephant and Piggie are good friends with very different personalities. One day when they are spending time together, Piggie notices that a bird has landed on Gerald's head. Shortly
Show More
thereafter, this bird is joined bu another and they begin building a nest. Gerald doesn't know what to do about the situation.

This picture book will lead to good laugh from any kid just beginning how to read, kindergarten and first-graders in particular. It's a funny story that slowly builds up excitement: what ridiculous thing will the birds do next on Gerald's head? The picture use many light and bright colors and feel very "open" when you look at them; like Ian Falconer with "Olivia" series, Willems work is sort of minimalist, emphasizing the characters' funny facial expressions.

This cute, comical story talks abuot two characters that share a great friendship. A bird lands on the elephants head and begins to build a nest, and the pig is not sure how to handle this situation. It leads into a funny storyline that young children will really enjoy hearing about during read

alouds or on their own. This short picture book has great dialogue that can be expressed by the teacher or by students depending on who is reading the story. This book would be great for talking about happy and fun emotions that are seen in different personalities and how two very unique creatures can still be great friends.

Another entertaining story of Elephant and Piggie, There is a bird on your Head continues this amusing series. In this picture book, a bird lands on Elephant’s head, where he panics in great fear. As the story continues, Piggie updates him with the happenings of the bird, even as a second bird

lands and falls in love. The text and illustrations are fun but simple-almost cartoon like. The book is humorous, dramatic, and easy to read for young readers. This book would be great in an elementary classroom (grades K-3) for a fun read or even a read aloud because of Piggie and Elephant’s expressiveness and reactions.
