A man made of leaves blows away, traveling wherever the wind may take him. On die-cut pages.

Description

Come along on a journey with a man made of leaves in this autumnal classic by Caldecott Honor–winning author-illustrator Lois Ehlert.

Fall has come, the wind is gusting, and Leaf Man is on the move. Is he drifting east, over the marsh and ducks and geese? Or is he heading west, above the orchards, prairie meadows, and spotted cows? No one's quite sure, but this much is certain: A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows. Ehlert crafts each illustration out of actual fall leaves and die-cut pages on every spread that reveal gorgeous landscapes. ThIs playful and whimsical book celebrates the natural world and the rich imaginative life of children. Includes facts on how to identify leaves out in the wild!

We all have the urge to be creative with leaves but Lois Ehlert shows exceptional creativity with this project--breathtaking!

I think that this would be a cool project to do with children. I would love to make a class story using real leaves from trees and plants. We could pick a fall theme, write a story, and collect leaves to create a book. Ehlert's book is a great example and reference.

Lois Ehlert puts so much effort and detail into the pictures in this book. Using leaves to show different shapes and pictures.

Great, great artwork that actually makes the story. What a great way to introduce children to the wonders of nature when combined with their imagination, they can create lots of stories and make any character whatsoever. Excellent book for October!

A man made of leaves travels wherever the wind blows him. This is a fiction story with incredibly beautiful leaf collage art made from color copies of real leaves collected all over the United States. It has simple text. I love Lois Elhert's artwork. I found this particular book really inspiring

This a book of imagination and a strong poetical influence. Leaf Man goes whenever the wind wants, looking for someone alike to him. A book that the early reader will enjoy as well as learns about leaves and their names. I book, also, that I enjoy for its imaginative format and subtle palette.

A stunning book, rich pictures/characters made from leaves, complete with an artist note on the process. An odyssey into fall. A great companion book to use when discussing flight patterns, directions of wind, Fall, finding leaves in the neighborhood, learning which trees produce which leaves

This was such a creative book that could very well get kids looking around outside for their very own leaf man. The way Ehlert took the time to find leaves from all over to create this book is amazing. And I love how she put all those leaves and other tree debris to good use and to create such cool
Show More
pictures out of it. The strength of this book is the creativity. This could be used as a class field trip to find their own leaves and create their own leaf men.

This book is called the "Leaf Man" and it is a very colorful book for a child to read. It talks about were the Leaf Man goes (which is were leaves may blow) and what different shapes and colors they are. Also, in the book, it shows the names of all kinds of leaves. So, its a very educational book

also.

If you're a fan of Ehlert's dynamic "story in pictures" format, you won't be disappointed by this gem. Follow Leaf Man across the autumn landscape spying the varying animals, plants, and insects he meets along his journey going "...where the wind blows." Don't miss the informative end note about

the construction of the images in this text.

The artwork in this book is amazing. I also liked the serrated page tops that create depth in the background. The story is kinda lacking but I don't think that is the point. The idea is simply to demonstrate how a person could use "found art" to discover things in nature (autumn leaves/debris). It
Show More
is sort of like looking at the clouds and finding images and shapes in them, except Ehlert uses leaves to create animals and the title character.

The Leaf Man tells about the journey of man made entirely of leaves. The wind blows him away and the narrator puzzles over where he has gone. The refrain, 'A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows' carries the reader through the story, past various birds and rivers, mountains and forests. With
Show More
leaves being the primary medium, the artwork has a wonderful childlike quality that inspires the imaginations and gets the reader to look at the world with new eyes.

A creative book about a man formed by nature. The book is about a man who forms by leaves and acorns for eyes. The wind sweeps him away of a tour of landscapes and different animals on a farm.

This is a very original story, not only for the storyline but also for its images. The collages are beautiful and inspiring for a young child. You can begin to teach children about the changing colors and various elements of nature.

In class, you could gather leaves from outside and create your own

collage about where the students think leaf man has gone.

I really love the way the colors of the leaves are used in this book. The page of wheat fields is done in yellow leaves and it looks so good!

Could make predictions of where the leaf is going to go. Punctuation and breaking sentences down. Science unit.

This book is a book following the journey of leaves as they change shape according to how the wind blows. Initially the leaves are seen in the shape of a man and they they progress to different shapes based on what direction they go!

This is a good book about using your imagination to create leaf men. It was a quick and easy read. The story talked about the different places the leaf man could have been and then ended telling the reader to create their own leaf man.

This would be a fun book for students grades K, 1, or 2. It would be good to read when it is becoming fall and the leaves are starting to fall and change colors. It could also be read if students are learning about different types of trees and what their leaves look like. A fun project would be to
Show More
take your students outside, allow them to collect leaves, and let them put them under white paper and color the outside with a crayon.

This book is all about the many different types of things that grow on things. In order to create new characters in the story, different leaves are used. The leaf man has a journey that he goes on where he encounters many different places and animals. The purpose of the story is to make you think
Show More
creatively because you never know what you might want to write a story about.

This is such a beautoful book! I loved reading the author's note at the end about how she has always been a leaf collector but became frustrated becasue the leaves always lost their color. I was amazed that the leaves she used for her illustration were actually color copies of the various leaves
Show More
she had found. I also loved how she labeled the leaves in the back so you knew what trees they came from. The ones she couldn't identify, she just labeled as mystery leaves! This is a charming book that allows the reader to look at nature, leaves especially, in a different light. Where will you find Leaf Man?

The author uses color copies of leaves to make clever collages of animals and plants in this story about Leaf Man. The man is made out of leaves and goes on a journey because the wind is blowing. It asks the reader to keep a look out for their own leaf man hiding on the ground. Clever idea for an

art project incorporating nature.
