Book Love captures well the deep feelings many of us share for our favorite occupation.

It evokes perfectly the joy of finding books AND a cafe and bakery combined.

A little more variety would be welcome as many of us enjoy a love of nature as well as a love of reading.

Book Love by Debbie Tung is a 2019 Andrews McMeel Publishing publication.

This adorable book is about me. This is me- well with a few slight exceptions. But, basically, if your life revolves around books- If you live them, breathe them, inhale them, hug them, collect them, share them, quote from
Show More
them…. Etc, Etc. - This book is for you.

This book isn’t a story, it doesn’t have a plot, per se. It is basically a special gift for book lovers, a celebration and homage to books and book nerds. The comic drawings are not overly dramatic, but the expressiveness is what jumps out at you. The passion, the defensiveness and protectiveness towards books and our obsession with them, and the familiar frustration with people who just don't 'get it', resonated with me one hundred percent. I laughed so hard at the dialogue because I’ve said or done these things- often. I have had variations of these arguments and conversations and have had the exact same reactions, thoughts and feelings, at one time or another. The only difference for me is that I've been known to hug my Kindle in the same way I hug a print copy book. This happens more and more often now that I really have come to depend on that large font size- but, I understood the sentiment, all the same.

This book is short and sweet and so easy to relate to. You will see yourself in this book and appreciate the nod to book lovers, and may even experience a feeling of vindication, knowing that you are in good company. This book soothes my introverted soul in ways that may make my eyes leak just a little.

What I can say for sure, is that Debbie Tung is my kind of people. I may not know her personally, but I think she may know me.

This is the perfect book for book lovers! The author and illustrator has perfectly captured the life of a bookworm in a series of black and white cartoon panels and illustrations. I could definitely agree with her thoughts. The book brought me lots of laughs and was quite a lighthearted diversion

Lovers of the Written Word Unite and be prepared to giggle!!

This is an adorable, accurate, witty, poignant, highly enjoyable and most of all relatable comic style read. These comics spoke directly to the ardent bibliophile in me as I am sure it will do for you. I often found myself nodding along

in silent agreement/enjoyment and feeling seen/understood/spoken up for. It was humorous and, as a fervent lover of literature, I was thrilled to have the chance to read this book.

The holidays are almost upon us and I believe this to be a cute gift for the bibliophiles in your life.

~Enjoy!

A collection of Tung's comics all centering around books and the reading life. A quick delight. I love Tung's work.

If you've read Quiet Girl in a Noisy World, you will be familiar with the style and illustrations of this book. The focus of the book is on the love of everything bookish. One of my favorite illustrations is about speaking in literary quotes--I'm guilty of that! I also loved the page titled
Show More
"Memoirs I Could Write" and one of those being "To All the Books I Bought But Never Read". I think book lovers everywhere will be able to relate.

I can relate to every page of this wonderful book. So cute and spot on 😍😍😍😍 This page made me laugh so hard because I just did this to my best friend after finishing The Great Alone. Every book lover should get this book.

As one who lives in a constant state of book fever, it is waaay too easy for me to relate to so many of the strips in this collection. For book lovers only; others will only shake their heads in bewilderment.

A collection of artist Tung's comic-strip-type work, about what it's like to be a book lover.

Of course, I recognized myself on nearly every page, and I gave it to my husband to read, hoping it would help him with insight. It's not just me! (Sadly, I don't think that he, a non-book-reader, was

interested enough to finish it.)

Debbie Tung doesn’t just understand book lovers, she is a book lover. I really enjoyed this quick read of Debbie's thoughts about everything to do with books and reading such as: how we read, where we read, why we read, and how we feel about books. Her illustrations perfectly capture the emotions
Show More
we have when reading, stumbling across a book sale or a book we had forgotten about, the anguish when you finish a book on a cliff hanger, the feeling you get when you watch a movie based on a book and find out they destroyed the story and more. Every page validated one of my bookish experiences, even if it was over the top at times. This book will be in a few packages next year, once it is published. The publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, generously provided me with a copy of this book to read and enjoy. The rating, ideas and opinions are my own.

This. So much this. Debbie Tung's Book Love speaks to my soul. It's like the author has been spying on my (admittedly boring) life! It's clear she's an avid bibliophile herself. This book was an awesome reminder that we book-lovers are not alone, even when it feels like no one around us understands. I loved that she sketched out myriad amazing books others might enjoy. They were so varied, there's sure to be something for everyone. I made a reading challenge using these panels.

One sketch is about how to get more reading done, and a panel included keeping a list of books you've read. Such a great idea! I've done this since 1993, and going back over the list is a great mnemonic tool. I can pull up a wealth of memories by scanning the list. A perfect gift for the bibliophile in your life!

***Many thanks to Netgalley/ Andrews McMeel for providing an ecopy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Fun little book of comics about books. Not much depth to it...and her (cover) lists of good books contained a lot of "classics" and few that interested me (Catcher in the Rye, Eat Pray Love, A Thousand Splendid Suns...lots of books I "should" read, none I'm interested in reading for their own
Show More
sake). I was hoping for some book bullets. But a lot of her experiences either match mine or I've at least thought about doing that (going off in a corner and reading, at a party...). Enjoyable, and I'll probably look up more of her work online.

I love her art style. I really enjoyed all the detailed black & white illustrations.

I laughed at only a few of the comics but strongly identified with virtually all of them. This was a comfort read for me. I felt validated regarding my love of books and reading.

This was my first Hoopla e-book from
Show More
the library. I signed up for Hoopla because this is the only edition of this book available at my library. I’d rather have read the paper book but even on my phone it was a good enough reading experience.

Highly recommend to most book lovers - all but those who don’t like books about books or comics.

I definitely want to read all her comics/books. I am a fan of her art and of what she has to say. I read this one over 3 days but only because I wanted it to last. She “gets” me/typical bookworms.

This was a joy for me to read/view!

It's every book lovers dream graphic novel! Yes this book is about me to a tee. As I read each page with wonder and laughter, I just nodded and said out loud "yup I do that" as my husband is shaking his head at me. Every single bookworm needs to read this graphic novel... for the love of everything

A collection of Tung's comic strips about being a reader and book-lover. There are some nice recognizable moments in this and some of the jokes hit very close to home, in a good way. The drawings are a little too "cutesy" for me, but not annoyingly so. A quick read that I enjoyed.
LibraryThing member MillieHennessy
This is an adorable collection of comics for all book lovers. Funny and sweet and meaningful.

Pleasant expressive, primitive and quash style. Among these 120 some strips there are 10 or 11 great ideas for a four panel strip. Repetitive.

Cartoonist Debbie Tung's book will be adored by bibliophiles everywhere. It's not really a graphic novel. It's more of a collection of thoughts on books and reading with some of them serialized over several pages. It makes a perfect gift for the book lover. I received an electronic copy of the book

I am a fan of Debbie Tung's work and this particular title, Book Love, spoke directly to me as a book lover. Not just a voracious reader but a lover of books, the physical objects themselves.

Most book lovers, as described above, will see themselves in many of these comics. People who are mostly
Show More
readers while liking books won't be left out since the comics span the range of definitions of book love. In fact, friends and relatives of readers and book lovers will get a kick out of these since it lets them know that their loved ones aren't strange, well, aren't alone in their strangeness.

I also admit that books like this will usually get 5 stars from me for a couple reasons (and if they don't get 5 stars they will likely get 1 or 2). The main reason, and the only one that I will mention, is that they are usually straightforward about what they are and they deliver it. If a reader looks at a couple of comics, or is familiar with the author, then they will be satisfied with the book. My ratings are only part whether I like or dislike a book. It is also about whether I think the book delivers on what it promises. Collections of comics by known writers/illustrators rarely have a disconnect between promise and what is delivered, so 5 stars for most.

This book will especially speak to readers and book lovers, we have some of the same idiosyncrasies and are also aware of how many people look at us. So when these comics poke fun at both ourselves and those looking at us like we're nuts, we can't help but nod and laugh. And share them with everyone we know.

A Brief Review of Book Love by Debbie Tung.

This book was read by two people in this household and thus the final rating will be a combination of two opinions. Also, a big thank you to #GoodreadsGiveaway for a chance to read this book.

First, the production quality of this book is excellent. The size
Show More
is easily managed, portable, easy to pick up for a quick peak and fits the intent perfectly. The image reproductions are spot on and the texture and feel of the hardcover enhance the overall experience.

Second, the content was very good. One the of two reviewers in the household was heard to exclaim, "This is wonderful - I want to buy twelve copies to send to friends and family." The second reviewer's opinion was more reserved and found some of the humor to be out-of-sync with is own too-firmly-held opinions on books. He was heard to say, "What! She won't lend her books away! That's the purpose of books. Books are to be passed around and read!" Of course he held in reserve his own author signed hardcovers that would never be given out under any circumstances. :-)

Overall this book was the perfect match between content, style, and quality. A delightful collection of light humor in a perfect package.

Reviewer 1: 5 stars
Reviewer 2: 4 stars
Overall: 4.5 stars

For me I think this was just too much of a good thing. I love Debbie’s strips on reading when I see them in the wild. But collected as an entire book, it was just long and very repetitive.

3 stars for being super cute but it’s just not substantial enough for a higher rating. Fun 15 minute read for a bookworm.
