Description

In 1860's Montana Territory, Kate Beecher, a young woman from Boston, faces the hardships and hard choices of life on the frontier. Just eighteen and quietly struggling against the social constraints of the era, Kate meets a woman who fires first her imagination, and then her dreams. Jessie Forbes, a fiercely independent rancher, finds in Kate the passion she never knew she had been missing. This is the story of their struggle to love in a land, and time, as cruel as it was beautiful.

seriously conflicted feelings about Jessie.

I really like the idea of this story: two young, spirited, independent girls falling in love with one another at a time when there wasn't really a word to describe what they were or how they felt. And I liked the characters of Kate and Jessie.

I read somewhere online that this had started out as Xena fan fiction, which might explain why the story is in desperate need of an editor. I had a very difficult time concentrating on the story itself, because the point of view changes so frequently - mid-paragraph, much of the time. In fact, there was one paragraph where the point of view was shared with three characters! If the author had just picked a point of view and stuck with it, at least for the length of a chapter, the story would have been so much more readable and enjoyable.

There IS a good story here; it would just benefit immensely from an editor who could bring it to the forefront.
