FIRST LINES: " Were you really serious about the Hitler thing?" Dave said, dousing Meredith's jeans & sweater w/ lighter fluid.
COMMENTS: I like this series and this was a good entry combining a past crime from about 12 yrs ago w/ a slew of current day slayings. The slayings are the vigilante type where a person is tortured & forced on video to admit to a prior crime and then murdered. There have been several but when a wealthy woman w/ political ties is killed NYPD RED 2 is called in. Fast paced.

Kylie and Zach are on a special Task Force called NYPD Red. They only deal with high powered, famous, rich people who need the police. They have been called out to a homicide where one of the New York elite has been murdered by the HazMat killer. This killer gets the victim to confess to things

they did that were illegal in a video before being tortured and killed. I really enjoy this series because the characters seem to be very real. Can't wait until NYPD 3!

NYPD Red is like Major Case in LA. They only deal with high profile cases. This time Zach and Kylie are looking for the Hazmat killer who tortures his victims, dresses them hazmats suits and videos them confessing to crimes. Meanwhile Kylie is dealing with her husband’s prescription drug

addiction and Zach is juggling his feelngs for Kylie and his new relationship with Cheryl.

In this sequel to NYPD Red, Patterson and Karp continue with detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald. Red 2 was just as good as NYPD Red; fast moving, twisty, interesting. There were also some side stories woven in really nicely. Politics always plays a role in this crime fiction. However, that

the first 2/3 of this story was as exciting and well written as the final 1/3.This is a good, quick summer read.

a mayor who is running for re-election against a friend of the latest victim the investigation is a pressure cooker of power plays and intrigue. Rich with the tapestry of New York City and the vibrant characters that live there the story carries the reader along on a twisting journey to find the vigilante alternately loved and hated by the city’s inhabitants.
In the midst of the investigation Kylie faces the challenge of her husband Spence’s relapse into drug addiction while Zach’s romance with recently divorced police psychologist Cheryl Robinson escalates, and Mayor Spellman makes a frantic attempt to be re-elected.
The Hazmat Killer chooses his victims from among the unpunished but obviously guilty who roam NYC streets. One by one the guilty are caught, held and tortured, and then their confession is videotaped before they are killed and left to be discovered in Hazmat suits. The latest victim is the not only a wealthy New York socialite she is also the campaign manager of mayoral challenger Muriel Sykes. This increases the pressure to solve the crimes before Election Day.
As Jordan and MacDonald attempt to figure out the connection between the victims other than their criminal histories, they skirt the edges of police procedure. As the investigation escalate the murder of a teenaged Mafia son from the distant past plays into the story. The only downside of the book is the somewhat corny and saccharin romance between Zach and Cheryl as well as Zach’s ongoing and undeniable attraction to former girlfriend Kylie. In spite of that the story flows well and the ending is a real jolt.
If you read and liked “NYPD Red 1” you will enjoy this follow up. Not too gritty, a little predictable, but with enough of a surprise at the conclusion to make it worth reading. Personally I hope to see more of these characters.

Was excited to see that he wrote a sequel to NYPD Red. A nice, quick but thrilling read as always. I'm ready for his next book!

If I hadn't started this book at 5 p.m. on Sunday I would have finished it in a day. It was hard to put down. The tempo was fast and it kept me guessing who the killer was. There was even an oh no moment. This series is refreshing. As much as I love the Alex Cross character, I'm getting a little

tired of reading about him. The storylines seem to be almost the same. This series is about an elite division of the NYPD that caters to the rich and famous. There were also some side stories woven in really nicely. I felt like I got to know the characters without it being too obvious. Very enjoyable read. I can't wait for book three.

A serial killer catches the attention of the NYPD Red group when the latest victim turns out to be a wealthy woman with political connections to the mayoral race. There is more than usual pressure from the Mayor’s office to solve the crime before election day so he doesn’t lose his job. There

is of course the stumbling blocks and once this case is solved an old murder case is cleared as well. It seems that the killers are selecting victims that have gotten away with their crimes. But not all their victims are always guilty. Another fun race against the clock sole the murder and catch the bad guys.

Once again I listened to this on audio in a fairly short amount of time and it was entertaining. I grabbed the third book on audio from the library to continue in that format.
