Description

With a popular comic strip, card line, and children's cartoon to her name, Lucy Brighton should be in a happy place. But the ache of a cold, lonely childhood lingers on. Even though she still lives in the New Jersey house where she grew up, Lucy has had little contact with her parents since they moved to Florida five years ago. Then Lucy receives a call that her parents have been killed in a car crash. While settling their affairs in Florida, Lucy begins to realize how little she really knew about their lives. She has no way to explain the mysterious safe in their bedroom, with its cache of fake passports, cash, and weapons. What secrets were the Brightons keeping? Were they even who they claimed to be? The answers will shatter everything she once believed about her parents - and about herself.… (more)

This actually was not a bad book, but I think it could have been better. Lucy Brighton is a successful author of a children’s book series with numerous spin-offs. Lucy seems to have everything, but really has no happy memories of childhood or loving parents, having been shuffled off to boarding

school at age 10 by parents she barely knows or has a relationship with. When they die suddenly, she is thrown into a tizzy by what she finds in their Florida house. The story has a fairly good storyline, though it is very much improbable. I also wish there had been some reconciliation between Lucy and her parents at the end. I guess I just like happy endings. I thought that was coming as I read the book. Lucy does find a good man in the midst of all her troubles, as crazy and improbable as they all seem. In the end, I think the author copped out by having one of the main characters retire, so the whole story of what exactly was going on could be presented. However, having another ending might have increased the length of the book considerably, which the author might not have wanted to do. Nevertheless, the writing is good and the characters are well-developed but you would expect that from such a well-known, popular author. I have read everything the author has written. I get the impression she is grappling with what to write now. This is a good attempt, but, as one reviewer pointed out, she missed several good chances to expand the story and make it better.

Another very good book by Fern Michaels. This is the story of Lucy Brighton and the life she leads as a successful author of children's books. There are many facets to her life that she does not find out until later in her life when her alleged parents are killed in a car accident. There is mystery

Another quick read from Fern Michaels. Lucy Brighton is a CEO of her own company of cartoons, greeting cards etc. She is not very close to her parents so is not overly emotional when she is told they have been killed in a car accident. She heads down to Florida to take care of their affairs. While

Typical Fern Michaels. All of her books have plots that are just too convenient and work out too well. Just not realistic.
