protection, caution and security procedures fail and the one person who are trying to keep safe is in danger and you are helpless and cannot do anything to prevent the eventual outcome? What happens when not only is a kidnapped stalking and watching someone you love dearly for over two years without your knowledge, but this same person is bent on making this person work for them even if it’s against their will.

Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan is top notch in her field and many have sought her expertise to recreate the face of someone they love who has been killed in order to bring closure into their lives and their loved on home. Detective Joe Quinn would do more than move heaven and earth to keep her close to him and safe so when he’s required to appear at important trial, he enlists the help of her adopted daughter to come and stay with Eve. But, Jane McGuire is about to be blindsided in more ways than one as she prepares to leave and visit her adopted mother something draws her in another direction. Calling Eve to tell her she has to tend to her dog Toby who appears to be critically ill, she decides to head for an experimental facility hoping they will be able to figure out what made Toby sick. Arriving there she encounters many obstacles the first being the one person she trusts to care of Toby is not there. Having to decide whether to trust and enlist the person in charge requires Jane honing in on her instincts. Added in is a great new character the author introduces named Margaret: a Dog Whisper. Yes, you read it right she can speak and understand what Toby and other dogs are feeling and they seem to communicate with her. Learning more about her as author Iris Johansen takes us deep inside this facility, explains what caused Toby to become ill and starts a chain of events as a result that will endanger not only Jane but Eve too. As Jane is about to embark on her mission to bring Eve to the facility, someone else has other ideas and she is stopped. With the help of a flame whose presence burns her fires you might say and turns her motor on high, Seth Caleb, Jane goes on a quest to find out who the person was that tried to kill her dog, who else might be the target and why she cannot locate Eve.

Enter Venable and Zander one from the CIA and the other an operative. Worried about the whereabouts of one man named Jim Doane, they discuss the reasons why Eve Duncan might be in danger, just what this man wants and how they hope to stop him before it’s too late. But the author brilliantly introduces this man who appears to be sane yet is he? Talking to bag of burnt bone fragments and calling them Kevin, this man has one mission in mind and that is to make sure that one person comes to his aid to reconstruct these bones into a face without going to the police even if it means: TAKING EVE the title of this novel.

As Jane is recovering from what the killer wanted to do to her, disables the one man who is trying to protect Eve and then one man finally gets his wish making her his captive. What will happen when Joe realizes she is gone and that she has been kidnapped? What is Eve going to do? Will she abide by what this man requests or will she use everything she has to try and escape?

As one part of Jane’s world comes crashing down on her two men vie for her attention and will no stone unturned in their quest to not only help find Eve to be compete for her attention and more. Added in we learn more about Venable and his role plus the reasons why he cannot divulge the entire truth about Doane to Joe. The suspense is high; the electricity between Caleb and Jane high voltage and the darkness surrounding him draws her closer into his web as Trevor’s lightness ignites old fires.

What ignites Eve to continue are her dreams as Bonnie appears to not only her but to someone else encouraging her to continue on, to find a way out and to make her understand more about Doane. What she reveals is frightening what she learns will reinforce to the reader why Iris Johansen creates a plot so filled with intrigue and suspense you won’t be able to put it down until you find out who wins and who gets caught in the web of lies for Taking Eve.

When Eve confronts this mad man and she learns more about his son, the startling revelations will make you shudder, as the truth behind this man’s reasoning is more than just faltered. Just how Eve plans to combat what he has in store for you still remains to be seen. Just who else is involved in this plot, why were so many killed and what was this father’s son’s motives for killing you just won’t believe his rationale. Why would a father condone the deaths of so many at the hand of one?

When some of the pieces start coming together the revelations made you won’t believe. What happens at the end will leave the reader hoping that Hunting Eve will come out soon than July. Just what happens to Eve you won’t believe? Will they find her before it’s too late? What is the connection between Eve and one of the major players? Why doesn’t Jane shake the feeling that something else is about to happen? Who started this and who else would this man get his revenge on? How can skull control the actions of one man and what will happen if Eve ever finishes the reconstruction?

Just how safe are you? Just how safe is anyone? Guards posted, weapons drawn and yet some are still captured. Taking Eve: Find out what happens when one man is so obsessed with revenge and so many others are used as pawns. One fast paced novel that will capture you from the start and keep you guessing until the very strong unexpected and explosive ending. Taking Eve: The Hunt is About to Begin!

The story was good, but sometimes the writing was difficult to follow. I had to reread several paragraphs sometimes because her wording was difficult to follow.
