Description

Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML: THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby's brand new series, five best friends open a hot new restaurant, but one of them gets much more than she bargained for when a sexy former rock star walks through the doors??and into her heart. Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She's determined to make it a success and can't think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she's in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him??his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school??he's all bad boy...exactly her type and exactly what she doesn't need. Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what's always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake's past finally catches up with him. Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her he… (more)

When I started this book and realized it's about a musician and set in Portland, I was so excited. Portland is where I grew up during my formative years. I thought this has got to be an absolute winner. Hit it out of the park. Everyone is saying good things. Enjoying this story depends on the

reader.

I think the author wanted it to be a hot sizzling romance, complete with daydream of perfect bodies, stilettos, rock hard abs, beautiful friends, and lots of money. Rockstar, romance dream.

I'm finding I am liking these stories less and less. They feel cookie-cutter to me but then on the flip side so many friends absolutely love these stories for the daydream.

I'm wondering if I'm turning into a snob of sorts. But then like my last book that I read - I absolutely loved it and it was a romance. I don't know if it was the descriptions of clothing, lyrics by the page, or even the break up, get together, break up again, but get together after a night of binge drinking. Then finally taking the time to be mature and think about how you can't live without the person. I don't know. I'm not saying this book was in anyway bad. However, this trope is overdone and not realistic...for me. Which is rather funny because again, I thought I would love this book. Some people don't need realistic they want escapism.

A big plus - this setting in Portland. For some reason I imagine the restaurant like Jake's Crawfish in downtown Portland. Maybe because main character's name is Jake. Running a restaurant is hard work. Doesn't really lend to the credibility of a very active social life.

Bottom line, if you like romance escapism and some cotton candy reading, this book is for you.

The writing isn't great, and the girl posse conversations sometimes read a bit juvenile, but I really liked the main characters and the central friendships. I loved that Jake's BFF was an attractive straight woman. Too often romance makes it seem impossible for straight people of different genders

to be friends and that is silly. I have had attractive male friends who are not hideous and where our relationship is completely platonic, and even have a close friend I did canoodle with back in the day but who is now completely in the friend zone (the feeling is entirely mutual.) This is normal. Sex and romance are not the only possible end.

Anyway, bad writing be damned, this was the audiobook I listened to to whisk me off to sleep for the past week, and it charmed the heck out of me.
