I was not extremely fond of the book “School Bus” by Donald Crews. The first reason that I do not think it was a good book is because almost every sentence in the book was a fragment. I assume the author is trying to keep the language short and simple for young readers, but ends up writing

sentences such as, “Going that way”, “See you later”, and “Home again.” I do not think it is very beneficial for an emerging reader to be reading a book that uses very few complete sentences. Secondly, I thought the book was fairly boring because there was no real story or plot line. The buses pick up the kids, drop them off, wait, and then take them home. There was no action and the concept was not very exciting. I do not think that this book would interest or engage young readers. The main idea of the book is to show where a school bus goes and what it does throughout the day.

This is a wordless picture book about school buses. The art is all computer drawn. The book is about all the different kinds of school buses, where school buses go, who rides on them, and what color they are. The reading level is probably kindergaten because it is a very easy concept. The

This book is simple in structure and text, but children the appeal to chidlren is clear. We learn about where buses go, who rides on them, and what color they are. Crew's illustrations are realistic giving kids the power to access relevant, important information to them in a sophisticated but

Donald Crews has written and illustrated a number of picture books about different modes of transportation, where the text is sparse but the pictures are vibrant. This is a genius idea, really, because kids love cars, trucks, and things that go; my eldest daughter is addicted to vehicles. As the
Show More
title suggests, this book is all about school buses. The story follows a simple day in the life of a bus, as it transports children to school and home again. Every page is a full spread of luscious illustration, with a lot of bright yellow. It's a very simple story, but the pictures are engaging, and it meets its purpose of exploring different facets of school buses. A good choice for children with an interest in things on wheels.

This book is a great book for children in Pre-K and Kindergarten to either read by themselves or for a read aloud. The book teaches children what school buses are and what they are used for. The illustrations are bright and inviting for younger children, and help them to understand safety around

Summary:
This book talks about school buses and traveling around town to pick up students and drop them off at school but before they can make it to the school the must stop at the red lights and when they turn green the bus can travel on to the school. Then returning them home when school is over.

Personal response:
This book will be a good book to read to students on their first day of school because many children ride the school bus and the first time you ride it, it can be scary.

Classroom extension ideas:
1. I will have the students color a yellow school bus and they will draw themselves on the bus.
2. We could also play red light green light so the students learn when it is ok to go and when you are supposed to stop when there is a red or green light. When I say green light the students will come towards me then I will say red light and they must stop!

What does a school bus do other than pick up and drop off students? Where does it live? Are they all the same size? Find out the answers to these questions and more in this story about, you guessed it, school buses! Used this in conjunction with my Night at the Fair by Donald Crews to have a

pretend field trip to the fair! The students loved their pretend field trip and I loved it, too! :)

This book talks about the school bus and all the important jobs a school bus does. It also can help prepare children for riding the bus.

The book would be great for students to get them excited about riding the bus if they are weary to ride. The story is great for prediction and teaching stop and go.

Great book that puts children inside the world that a school bus has, picking up kids to take them to school, taking the kids home from school. All included.

Ok, I only gave this one 3 stars - but that's just my opinion. If you asked my 2-year-old it would definitely be a 5 star review. He can't get enough of this book and seems to love everything about it. He points out which bus is "his" bus and which is his brother's. He points out the garbage truck

and taxi and cars. Apparently it's a fascinating read if you're 2. However, for me having spent a significant portion of my youth inside one of those yellow school buses - I now fail to understand the allure. Or maybe I'm just tired of reading it every night.

Small kids are interested in vehicles and buses, in this book it tells like where to stop and why these big vehicles are used. So I think this is helpful for small children.
