Hundreds of Ignatian prayers are included here, many written by the most illustrious Jesuits--Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Anthony de Mello, Karl Rahner, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, and others. Each gives eloquent voice to Ignatian spirituality, which affirms that God is present in all things and at all times. Thus, this collection includes Ignatian prayers for all occasions, including the most familiar and seemingly mundane.

As someone who is regularly called upon to prayer before meetings, having a variety of prayer books on my shelf is a great help. "Hearts on Fire: Praying with the Jesuits" has been a good addition to my shelves. In includes a variety of prayers from various points in the Jesuits' history, from the

great Jesuit saints to more modern members.

My only criticism of the book is that many of the selections are more poetical than prayerful. While I acknowledge that poems can be prayers, it is not a form that particularly speaks to me; your mileage may vary.

That having been said there are prayers that will speak to most anyone in this volume and I would not hesitate to pick it up if you are interested in learning more about the Jesuits and their tradition of prayer.
