Description
The Stanzaic Morte Arthur engages with the tragic implications of the chivalric love between Lancelot, Arthur and Guinevere; the Alliterative Morte Arthur with those of the aspirations of militant chivalry espoused by Arthur and his knights. The texts have been edited for readers who havelittle or no training in Middle English.

This edition brings together the alliterative Morte Arthure (c 1400) and the stanzaic Le Morte Arthur (c. 1350) in modern translation, together with useful introductions to each. These were both prime sources for Malory's prose version nearly a century later. I found the stanzaic version
Cyflwyniad i agweddau ar straeon Arthur a'r traddodiadau celtaidd hynafol sydd i'w weld yn rhannol ac yn bytiog mewn chwedlau fel Breuddwyd Rhonabwy a Culhwch ac Olwen. Mae tystiolaeth i ehangder y traddodiad yma, yn ein Trioedd (Trioedd Ynys Prydain) a'r chwedlau cynharaf eraill yn y traddodiad Arthuraidd a geir mewn ieithoedd eraill.

The TEAMS books are wonderfully done, and this is no exception. I am in love with the alliterative morte poem, even though it is incredibly difficult to wade through. The amount of detail is almost excruciating even though it is also fascinating. An excellent edition.

Not so interesting as Mallory, but useful as a precursor of the great Morte. It seems to cover the standard bases later used by Malory, as regards the end of the Round Table.
