This book is incredibly simple and very repetitive. But after a pack a day for 15 years and a ton of failed attempts, I haven't smoked again since I finished the book (9 months as of the date of this review). Either this book will make everything click for you or you'll think it's silly. Either

way, you've got nothing to lose.

It doesn't help everybody, but it really helped me. I've been off the smokes for two and a half years now, and I'm never going back....

Well I did stop smoking after I read this book and i didn't even "cheat" once, but that only lasted about 4 months. It was my fault though. I'll give the book some credit though, I didn't think a book was able to make me stop smoking.

It works. It's pretty obvious there's psychological manipulation going on, but isn't that what got us smoking in the first place? I have no problem with fighting fire with fire -- see what I did there?

The first time I read this book, about twelve years ago, I found myself not wanting to smoke

pretty early on. So, I just didn't smoke anymore, but continued to read the book. And somewhere near the end he cautions -- once you stop, don't start again. After not smoking, and not even wanting to smoke, for about a year, I decided I would start smoking again. WTH?

About five years later, read the book again, didn't want to smoke, again. About a year later, decided to start smoking again. WTH?

In both those cases, there were crises that screamed for something and since there was nothing, I decided smoking was the solution. Of course, it didn't help.

This is the third time I've stopped smoking while reading this book. The first two times were easy -- just didn't want to smoke anymore and hardly ever thought about it. This time is more of a challenge and I have to actually remind myself that I don't really want to smoke anymore.

It's nothing like the cold turkey attempts of olden days, but it's not near as easy as it was the first time I read this book, either.

So, does it work? Yes. Does it work more than once? Yes. But I don't recommend doing it that way.

It really works. GREAT book, if you are a dirty filthy smoker.

The two interesting things Alen Carr says that causes us to smoke is:
1. Nicotine Addiction - which is pretty obvious
1. Brainwashing - as a child, as an adult, as a smoker, as a non smoker contemplating a smoker
He does a bit of brainwashing himself, but what the heck, if he's putting you in the

right mindset, then why not fall for it; why come up with scientific discussions and logical conclisions? :-D
Coincidentally the way he stopped smoking finally and for good happened to me in a similar fashion. The first three days which they say are the worst - sailed by easily for me. No physical or mental cravings, no deep depression, no feeling of emptiness.
However on the thirteenth day I must admit I had severe problems with the cravings, which I don't believe was due to smoking cessation alone.
Today on the fourteenth day, I feel just as good as the first - no cravings at all.
Alen Carr poses some interesting questions:
Is the life of a smoker of better quality than that of a non-smoker?
The answer may be disputed but when it comes down to downright statistics, Alen is right; the smoker is always the loser in every way - no one can deny that.
Would you be a smoker in the first place if you had the chance once again to make a choice.
Every non smoker would come with a resounding NO
Though you as a smoker, 'enjoys' smoking, or brainwash yourself into saying you enjoy it; would you like to see your children being smokers too"?
I don't have kids, so I don't have a right to answer that, but I my father who was a heavy smoker, would always chide us against trying the cigarette; at one point even whipping us when he caught us fingering some stubs smoked by a senior in our school.
Do you really enjoy smoking?
No smoker likes to be a smoker. He feels guilty every time he goes for his pack in his pocket - and I can vouch for that! So would every smoker out there, consciously or unconsciously!

Didn't completely finish (came very close) BUT what I did read help in my quest to stop smoking. I am currently a non smoker and even though it has only been a month and a half, believe I will be for life. I'll keep this e-book handy and perhaps re-read and finish it if I feel the itch.
