At the advice of her therapist, homicide survivor Harper Reynolds has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for a more peaceful life taking photographs of the natural world. But her hopes for a life surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors are dashed when she inadvertently captures a murder being committed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She flees the scene in fear--and loses the camera. Former Green Beret Heath McKade is a reserve deputy in an understaffed county who has been called in to protect Harper, a childhood friend he is surprised to see back in the area. When Harper learns that the sheriff's department can't find any evidence of the murder she witnessed, she is determined to do what she can to see that justice is done. What neither Harper nor Heath could know is how many explosive secrets from the past will be exposed--or how deeply they will fall for each other. I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
You won’t get to comfortable and you won’t think you know the ending, no, not possible, this one is non-stop action, and then more!
Now this is the second
Beautiful area of our country, and we experience this in a way, um, you probably wouldn’t really want to, but the author has used a great back ground for this read!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
There are some times in the book where it gets repetitive but the rest of the story makes up for it. I wish authors would trust me to remember a characters misgivings from one chapter to the next but maybe that is necessary for some readers.
All in all a clean (no language or s*x) book with an interesting story and characters that you learn enough about to care about. I would read another book about the characters in this one.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Her love for photography takes her into the woods to take scenic pictures one day that looked to be a pleasant outing. I have heard this said about cameras, “The camera never lies.” This one little statement for me is the focus of this story. What Harper sees through her camera on that unforgettable day will turn her life upside down. Can you imagine looking through the lens of your camera and witness a murder? I would run as fast as I could and never look back.
The book is well written with intrigue and danger that jumps off the pages. Harper is in danger but for some reason not everyone believes she saw anything. Losing her camera as she tries to get away from the scene will prove to be a huge mistake. The camera has evidence that someone doesn’t want anyone to find.
I loved Heath and how protective he was with Harper. He believes her and tries to help her find her camera and keep her safe at the same time. There is one scene in the book where I was on the edge of my seat. Harper and her sister are in a camper and suddenly it starts moving. That one terrifying moment knowing you have no control becomes a life or death situation. The author is brilliant at writing scenes that make you gasp and start hearing noises in your own surrounding. I have not read a book with this intensity in a long time.
Who is behind the murder and why can no one find the body? The author cleverly gives subtle hints to this question which can lead to speculation for readers. . The book is a wonderful journey through secrets, trust, danger and and letting go of the past. The faith element in the story is placed at perfect times and I did enjoy Harper and Heath dealing with their past. This has been a great story and I look forward to the next in the series.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Author: Elizabeth Goddard
Pages: 384
Year: 2019
Publisher: Revell
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The first book in the series is titled Never Let Go, and you don’t want to miss that exciting story either!
In this installment, Heath is embroiled in his past
On top of that, Heath has one brother who is now happily married, but he has no clue about his other brother. All he knows is the past keeps cramming his present and he is not seeing himself in any other way but a broken man. Now, with the small town where Harper and Heath were raised in turmoil, they wonder who is behind the bombings and killings even when facing the beautiful mountains that the area is known for by tourists.
There are many adventurous twists and turns in the story that will keep you glued to the book all the way till the end! I enjoyed the climactic ending, only wondering where the female lead got her flashlight when she finds herself trapped with others in a bunker! There is romance, danger, mystery and more in this second book in the Uncommon Justice Series. The author does a masterful job of bringing the reader along for a wild ride! There are some secondary characters that add such an intriguing dimension to the story. A little is revealed about them, but not where it overshadows the main players. So, kudos to the author for once again keeping me up at night and enjoying a wonderful tale!
Hope that you will read both Never Let Go and Always Look Twice before the third and final book is released next year.

For the sake of her mental health, crime scene photographer Harper Reynolds takes a break from her work, travels with her sister, and enjoys photographing the
After meeting Heath in Never Let Go, I happily got to know him, alongside Harper, better in Always Look Twice. Both Heath and Harper have pasts that haunt them, and it was oh so sweet to see them working together, simultaneously solving the mystery and healing with a new hope for the future. They make an excellent pair.
Now, I am so ready to read Liam’s story. He shows up in Always Look Twice, finally, and I cannot wait to get to know him.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
It’s funny how sometimes the very thing that we are trying to avoid brings us full circle and we end up coming back to what we tried to leave behind. So begins Elizabeth Goddard’s “Always Look
After an auspicious opening chapter, “Always Look Twice” consistently delivers spine-tingling moments mixed with romantic overtures. The two main characters, Harper and Heath, are broken individuals with their own traumatic pasts, and the events of this book thrust them together toward an explosive climax. This is a novel of dichotomies, with enough ongoing tension to keep the reader engaged but not overwhelmed. Old and new, the past and the present collide in a growing entanglement. I appreciated the complex psychology of the characters and the multifaceted aspects of their personalities. They are believable, and the romance unfolds tenderly alongside the healing that Harper and Heath experience. In one noteworthy scene, I figured out the identity of the perpetrator. However, I did not deduce the culprit’s motivations or how the story would end, so I feel that the author succeeded in the plot execution. The thread of redemption echoes quietly, the faith element undergirding the narrative but not overwhelming it. It patiently waits for the characters to embrace it, just as our Savior patiently waits for each of us to come to Him, either for the first time or after a misstep.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I would put this closer to 3.5 stars than 4. The plot is the straightforward a woman sees a murder and reports it but the investigators can find no evidence of a crime. If you're going to use a
I did like that Harper is a crime scene photographer who has recently turned her craft to photographing things other than crime scenes.
I connected with main character Harper immediately. She comes across as a real person, with unique talents and abilities, as well as unique challenges that stem from her past experiences. Harper is a woman who is aware of her issues, and is actively working to overcome them.
The book is set in Wyoming, an area that the author obviously knows well. Her descriptions of the wilderness made me want to visit and see the natural beauty for myself. Harper is a photographer, so we get to see a lot through her eyes and (and the eye of her camera). The author even includes (through the characters' experiences) some helpful tips on staying safe in terms of terrain and wildlife.
The romance between Harper and part-time deputy (and full time tourist ranch manager) Heath McKade adds an integral level to the story. When Harper sees something she wasn't intended to, she is in danger, and it's up to Heath to protect her and help solve the mystery. What makes the romance unique is that the two were childhood friends, and very close ones. They helped each other through some difficult times when they were too young to be thinking about romance. They've been apart ever since, and now have the opportunity to reconnect as adults, with no "former enemy" or "failed relationship" dynamic between them to pull them down into trope territory.
The mystery itself is also very well written. What Harper initially witnesses provides very few clues. Regardless, she is determined to solve the case. As she and Heath keep pushing to figure out what actually happened, the danger to Harper escalates. What started out as a single, fairly straightforward crime quickly expands to include other acts of violence. Long-hidden secrets from the past are also linked to current events, providing a nice, unifying element to the story.
When all is revealed in the end, everything makes perfect sense. The reader was provided with enough clues along the way to feel a part of solving the mystery, but not enough to make the answer obvious. To avoid spoilers, I won't say more, beyond the fact that the ending is satisfying in multiple ways.
Five of five slices of American cheese!
'It was as if an invisible force that spanned time and distance had brought them together again.' (p. 184)
Author Elizabeth Goddard demonstrates once again her ability to increase heart rates and affect emotions and it isn't just from the adventure and danger. It is apparent that Harper and Heath are physically attracted to each other but their past history and the hurts they have both endured seem to be roadblocks to a future together. Their efforts to stay alive and their attempts to forget the past allow Goddard to showcase the importance of faith and prayer in both of their lives.
"God, have you brought me through all of this only to die here and now?" (p. 346)
If you love mystery and adventure and if you enjoy romantic suspense with a faith-filled message, you will want to read Always Look Twice, the second book of the Uncommon Justice series. Elizabeth Goddard proves why she is such a well-loved author!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher but a positive review was not required. These are my own thoughts.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat and kept my interest throughout the entire book. The main characters each have a troubled past and we learn more about what happened to each of them throughout, as the main plot
In addition to the mystery aspect, there is some romance mixed in with danger. The characters also rely on their faith to help them overcome obstacles.
