This was an excellent romantic suspense novel, heavy on the suspense. We have Laden and Ava dealing with personal crises related to their parents, while having immediate issues dealing with a vicious killer who is motivated by old Cold War secrets and sins. The tension never lets up. Well done, Ms.

Eason.

This was a very good book with great suspense. I enjoyed the family history of both Caden and Ava and their friendship when they were young. They are chasing a serial killer, whose motivation leads back to Russia, the KGB and defection to the US. I have enjoyed all of her books I've read.

Yes as you quickly page turn for answers, and shaking your head, why? While many times holding my breath as the horrible, evil deeds are revealed.

We are reunited with past characters, but this is really a read alone, but happy to say hello, and catch up. This is Ava and Caden's time, and poor Ava's
Show More
mother is not doing well, and Ava's dad has recently been declared deceased. So much personal pain, but things get worse, but why? Answers are forthcoming, murders of three families, all including children, horrible.

If you enjoy suspense at its finest, Lynette Eason does not disappoint!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

Thank you in advance to the publisher, Revell (a division of Baker Books), for providing an advanced review copy through Library Thing. A positive review was not required nor requested and all words are my own.

I won the second book Acceptable Risk from Library Thing last year, and knowing they
Show More
were part of a series, I bought Collateral Damage (Brooke’s story) from Amazon. I have not read that book (even now). Acceptable Risk (Sarah’s story) was a non-stop action read. I also won Active Defense (Heather's story) from Library Thing, which was also a non-stop thrill ride of a read. So, imagine my surprise to win Hostile Intent to complete the series!

As this is part of a series, expect to see the characters from the previous three books be mentioned or appear – Brooke, Sarah (spoiler alert for her in this book), Heather, Asher, Gavin, and Travis also appear as does Zane.

While the books COULD probably be standalone reads, I really enjoyed reading them from #2 on. I still have to get #1 read. And, this is definitely like the other two with short chapters and no shortage of action. I needed to catch my breath after reading it. This had some J*A*G vibes to it with the Navy and C.I.A plots.

This is just as thrilling, engaging, edge-of-your-seat, intense, and an explosive read as Acceptable Risk and Active Defense were. And, this too has short chapters to keep the reader going.

Since this is Ava’s story it mainly focuses on her – though unlike the other books, not right away.

The beginning was a bit … creepy. And, word of note – if the death or killing of kids is bothersome, then I would read with caution. That was about the only problem I had. Eason doesn’t, thankfully, go into graphic details though.

Unlike the previous two books (and likely the first one), this is told from THREE POVs – Ava, Caden, and the antagonist (Nicolai).

FBI Special Agent Caden Denning (Sarah’s brother) is investigating serial murders and one connection leads to Ava Jackson. Ava’s father recently went missing, presumed dead. And, there’s a reason for the secrecy surrounding his death. One that might be connected to the other murders, though how is for the two to find out.

After Ava is attacked after visiting her mom at a nursing home, Caden not only vows to protect her, but he sort of needs her for the investigation.

Ava begins recalling events surrounding her father and his “work” – some memories going back to a mysterious break-in. There’s also someone who knew her dad and is trying to recruit Ava to step up.

Caden then guesses what Ava’s father did and that takes his investigation to a dramatic new level. In addition, one of the survivors is being hunted down and his grandfather refuses to tell Caden and Ava what is going on.

Some answers lie with Paul Jackson, Ava’s deceased father, and since he loved puzzles – they definitely have to solve one.

It seems, more and more, Paul has a connection to the families – though the why remain a mystery. And, Ava is pretty sure her father had an alias or is using one.

Despite each lead they think they’ve found; they don’t end up any further ahead. There is also little time for romance, though there is a joke about Ava and dating – no one gets a second or third date. She just doesn’t date. And, her father's job is one reason as to why.

The connection between the families was a bit cliché, still it did work, and it did make me pause for a moment to see how much one person's choice can affect a lot of people.

Eason keeps the readers in suspense with surprises thrown in.

She wraps up the series in a great way – big ending, and with a bit of humor.

I will have to admit that the very end I didn’t see coming and was a bit disappointed in. I didn’t see it going that way. Overall, though – this was a great read!!

This is distributed by Revell which tends primarily to Christian fiction. This has some slight references to God along with short prayers. These are not central to the plot though.

Fans of the author and genre will more than likely enjoy this particular read. Those who’ve read the previous books won’t want to miss out. I can’t wait to see what Eason has planned next.

Lynette Eason hits another home run! I have enjoyed every book by Eason and Hostile Intent was no exception. This is book four in the Danger Never Sleeps series. Reading the previous books is not required to understand the plot. Eason delivers her usual heart pumping suspense sprinkled with a
Show More
little romance and Christianity.

I loved Hostile Intent and read it in one evening. It's that good! Give it a try!

A serial killer is targeting military families, and FBI Special Agent Caden Denning has been assigned the case. A clue takes him to his childhood friend, Ava Jackson, just in time to help her escape an attack. The secrets Ava has been keeping for her father have brought a killer to her
Show More
doorstep.

This, as it happens, is the fourth book in a series. As I have not read the previous three, I cannot judge how this fits into the series. However, I can say this does stand on its own very well, making only brief mentions of the adventures that came before it.

the author manages to keep the suspense high from start to finish. I didn't much care for the flashback scenes that were scattered through the story to convey some important detail. Otherwise, the plot was interesting and well-paced.

As for the romance of the story, Ava and Caden had good chemistry, and the attraction between them was obvious. I just wasn't on board with the story, ending with them getting engaged. It just seemed rushed.

Overall, this was a nice change of pace from what I usually read. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic suspense.

Hostile Intent is the fourth in the Danger Never Sleeps series. Although these novels can be read as stand alone I recommend reading them in order for the fullest enjoyment. In this fourth novel we get to catch up as to what is going on in the lives of her friends Brooke, Heather and Sarah.

This
Show More
book focuses on Ava Jackson. Ava has an interesting past. Her father is a mystery. He recently died but a body was never recovered so I was wondering from the start as to if he was really deceased. Her father taught her Russian and is someway connected to the KGB. She suspects her may have been in the CIA. Her father never allowed for his photograph to be taken. When several families are murdered Ava investigates the connection to her father. One evil man is responsible for these murders and he must be stopped before any other people are harmed or murdered. Ava develops a close bond with Caden Denning who is Sarah's brother and he helps in the investigation and at the same time protects her. This book kept me turning pages until the end.

Thanks to LibraryThing and Revell Books for providing me with an ARC to read and review. The opinions are my own.

Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason is the fourth book in her Danger Never Sleeps series. There’s a serial killer targeting military families. FBI agent Caden Denning is part of the task force trying to solve the case. Ava Jackson is ex-military and a great linguist. When Caden rescues Ava from an
Show More
attacker in the parking lot he realizes that she might be able to help in the investigation. This story was very intense! There’s lots of action, secrets, and hidden agendas that eventually come to light. Ava was very capable of taking care of herself and she didn’t let her fears rule her life. The romance was there but not in an overwhelming abundance.

DISCLAIMER: Some of the action scenes are pretty graphic.

Hostile Intent is book four in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason. This story basically takes off shortly after the third books end so it is best to read these in order. The story does give background information so it also makes a good stand alone story.

This is a very well written
Show More
story with strong characters. It takes off running and doesn’t stop until the end. This is a fast paced story, full of action and suspense with little break in the action, so hard to put down. While this is a Christian story, this is basically a good clean story with minimal Christian reference. The theme of trusting runs through the story. This story focuses on Ava and Caden and their friendship that builds into a relationship. We also see the relationships they each have with their parents and siblings.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Ava Jackson is mourning the recent loss of her father when FBI special agent Caden Denning asks for her assistance with the investigation into the murder of a family. While digging into the motive behind the grisly attack, evidence is uncovered that connects Ava’s father to the family and that
Show More
connects this crime scene to others around the country. This new information means that Ava is in danger and leads her to question what she knew about her father and whether he is even really dead. Working together to unwrap this mystery, Caden and Ava realize the feelings that have developed over the course of their long-time friendship, but the two have to track down this ruthless killer before he finds Ava.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hostile Intent. The action and mystery kept a quick pace that never left me bored. Ava and Caden are likable, well-developed characters. The story line was original and unpredictable. The romance was sweet and clean, and I appreciate that the language was clean, as well. While there was mention of God, the plot didn’t heavily lean on faith. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Title: Hostile Intent (Danger Never Sleeps #4)
Author: Lynette Eason
Pages: 320
Year: 2021
Publisher: Revell
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The Danger Never Sleeps series begins with Collateral Damage, which introduces four female friends serving in the military and focuses on Brooke Adams. The next novel
Show More
is titled, Acceptable Risk where Sarah Denning, a military journalist, battles the memories of the past and the ones of the present that come without warning. Then, readers will enjoy Active Defense, where Heather Fountaine fights a stalker who is threatening her girlfriends while she is looking for some peace in her life. The last book focuses on the last of the four friends named Ava Jackson, who left the Navy when she learned of her mother’s diagnosis but battles a very complicated past that is about to threaten her present and future.
Ava Jackson is a woman who’s growing up years were anything but normal. She is so adept at lying no one could guess the life she lived. Ava was the main caretaker of her younger brother, Nathan, when her dad was out of town and her mother was incapacitated. Now, both brother and sister have grown up and what happens in their life is going to uncover a slew of secrets that even take Ava by surprise. Ava’s friends think they know her, including the man she has a crush on, FBI agent named Caden Denning. In the thrilling action and suspense-filled book, Caden has to decide whether to risk his heart to let Ava know how he feels as does Ava.
In her final installment in the series, Lynette Eason delivers a powerful, spell-binding tale sure to keep readers up until the conclusion! Having just finished the book, my heart still pounding. I can tell you this was the best of the four. Ava’s background is slowly revealed because it is complex and holds surprises I didn’t see coming. From start to finish, this is one of Lynette Eason’s best series!
Don’t miss the adventure!

Author Lynette Eason concludes her riveting, contemporary inspirational romantic suspense "Danger Never Sleeps Series" with Book Four, "Hostile Intent". After a decade spent in military service, during which time her father died, Ava Jackson returns to civilian life to care for her ailing mother.
When Ava is attacked after visiting her mother in the nursing home, an old friend, Caden Denning, comes to her aid. Caden, the brother of Ava's best friend Sarah, is an FBI Special Agent, and a case he's working on has links to Ava and her father. To the world at large, Paul Jackson was a travel reporter, but to a select, deadly group of elite undercover spies, he was a highly-skilled CIA operative. Ava, prized by her father for her intelligence and her own intuitive abilities, was very close to her father, and she came to her own conclusion that he worked for the CIA. She was the one person in his life who had his ultimate trust. After his mysterious death, she must follow the instructions and clues that he left behind, and she and Caden work together to so solve the grisly series of murders which all somehow link back to Paul Jackson. Longtime acquaintances and part of a circle of friends who grew up together and shared many memories, Ava and Caden had been unaware that they each had a crush on one another. Now, spending so much time together and having to rely on each other, friendship and attraction are merging into something more personal and powerful--could it be love? If they can solve the gruesome serial killings and bring the mastermind to justice, will the way be cleared for a bright and happy future? "Hostile Intent" is a terrific finale to a great series, which I highly recommend for lovers of thrilling, well-written, inspirational contemporary romantic suspense.

I look forward to Lynette Eason's books. The story line is good, characters well drawn, well crafted action lines and descriptive. "Hostile Intent" did not disappoint.

No, I did not like the scenes where heinous murders (executions) took place; but in the whole of the story, they were well done.

The
Show More
story is a outcome of the "today" result of Cold War spy games when old scores are settled. The clandestine nature of the lives lived during the Cold War era is well represented in this story though the story takes place in today's world and not that of the Cold War era.

I enjoyed this book and it was a quick read.

This is only the second book that I've read by this author and it affirms what I thought after reading the first book. "This gal can write!" From the first sentence to the last, Lynette Eason kept me turning the pages to see what was coming next. Hostile Intent is filled with suspense, intrigue,
Show More
and scene after scene of action and danger. Ava Jackson finds herself being hunted and FBI Special Agent Caden Denning pledges to protect her, but it's apparent that it won't be easy. There are intense scenes that made me wonder if the good guys would actually win, and there are other moments when I found myself actually holding my breath!

Hostile Intent is also a fascinating study of a friendship that many wish for, and a sweet romance that most of us long for. Ava, who has never had a third date, and Caden, who would love to be Ava's permanent date! Can he keep her safe long enough to achieve this goal?

Twists, turns, and numerous secrets make this a thrilling story that you won't want to miss. I recommend it to all who enjoy clean romantic suspense.

Bestselling Christian fiction author Lynette Eason brings her Danger Never Sleeps tetralogy to an electrifying finale with “Hostile Intent.” As with the previous three books in this series, this one can be read as a standalone, although there is strong character overlap and therefore spoilers;
having previously read only the first book so far myself, I still encourage everyone to read all of them for the pleasure of the plot intricacies and the obvious research that has gone into them. Even as someone who typically shies away from contemporary military stories, I could not put this book down, and it definitely increased my heart rate a time or two!

From the first page, “Hostile Intent” ratchets up the suspense and lays the foundation for an intense romantic thriller. A caveat is necessary for those who are profoundly disturbed by the murder of children, as well as violence and torture because they are integral to the plot, but Eason handles these sensitive issues with grace and leaves out graphic details. As such, while this may not be a light read, it does take on the all-too-real brutality and antagonism that fuels so many in modern society, offering some insight into how this type of behavior comes about and where it can lead when left unchecked: “Just two more families and his mission would be complete, his promise kept. His grandmother was wrong. Vengeance didn’t belong to God. It belonged to him. And it tasted sweet.” However, teaching someone to hate another person or group of people for any transgression, perceived or real, will never lead to a positive outcome for anyone.

Amidst this backdrop of reprisal, Ava Jackson, who recently left the Navy to care for her dying mother, finds herself somehow involved in a case of several murdered families, of which hers might be next. Working with FBI Special Agent Caden Denning to put the puzzle pieces together before time runs out, the duo uncover secrets that someone went to great lengths to conceal—and keep that way. Just as revenge can be a powerful motivator, so too the desire to protect the ones you love, even at the cost of personal sacrifice. After all, Jesus Himself showed us that sometimes the most unpleasant situations can lead to the most blessed destinations. As Caden remarks, “It’s funny how life can throw you a curve ball when you least expect it—or how God can change your perspective.”

Note: This is a book I won from LibraryThing's Early Reviewer Program back in May 2021. I had given up on receiving it, but it finally arrived in September. The Early Reviewer Program does request a review (though it is not a requirement) but the review is expected to reflect your true thoughts on
Show More
the work.

What I liked:
*old friends reconnecting--and finding something deeper
*the network of friends (Brooke, Ava, Heather, Sarah/Caden, Gavin, Zane, Travis, Asher)
*that Ava is able to defend herself/take care of herself. She isn't totally reliant on "the man" to come save her.

What I didn't like:
*there's a lot of secrecy and a lot of one agency not wanting to tell the other agency what they know. I can't help thinking that if there had been more information available, the murders might have been solved long before they were.
*The ending is a little formulaic for this genre--the woman gets captured by the bad guy and that's the impetus for the two main characters to realize they should take a chance on loving each other. In this case, Ava does have the skills to somewhat fend for herself and she's not totally reliant on Caden to come to her rescue.

Another wonderful addition to Eason's Danger Never Sleeps series! Her books are always action packed with just a tough of romance, and Hostile Intent is no different. Ava Jackson has kept her father's secrets since she was fifteen. Now those secrets may have to be revealed as someone is killing

families, and it appears her father is the link between them all. FBI Special Agent Caden Denning has had eyes for Ava since they were teens, never realizing she had a crush on him way back then as well. Now he hopes to develop a meaningful relationship with her, if he can keep her alive long enough to make that a reality. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, you will love Hostile Intent along with Lynette Eason's other books.

This book was an interesting read. It kept moving at a quick place and the tension built with each chapter. It reminded me of the TV show "The Americans" in the sense that it dealt with KGB and them defecting from Russia. Some of the scenes were pretty intense in their description. But that was
Show More
what made it realistic - like you would see on ID Discovery where they give details of a murder scene. Being Christian fiction, I knew it couldn't get to sick, which was honestly a comfort. Lynette Eason is one of my favorite suspense authors. She really knows how to develop characters so they seem like real people. Her descriptions are vivid and give just enough detail to give you the gist and she allows you to imagine the rest. Another compelling read by Lynette... and so far this is my favorite of this series.
