Description

Colin Scott is a top literary agent at a firm representing some of the biggest names in publishing. He's worked hard to reach this place, yet now it seems routine and aggravating. On top of the creeping cynicism in his professional life, Colin and his wife are desperate to have a baby. As the pressure mounts, he finds himself questioning almost every decision he's ever made. And he seems to be having a nervous breakdown. Then disaster strikes. On a much-needed vacation in Mexico, his wife's parasail malfunctions and she plunges to her death. From that point on, Colin's life goes from bad to worse as he loses his job and, apparently, his mind.

This is the most depressing book I've ever read. And the surprise ending didn't change my mind. The note at the front of the book from the publishers (Moody) states "written and produced from a biblical perspective" but I didn't find that to be true.

A strange tale, just outside of reality. Beautiful prose and lyrics style is grounded by a sad, difficult story with worn characters who experience heart-break and failure. I would recommend to others, just with the caution, it's not for everyone.

I found this book quite odd. The author lets the reader think the storyline of the novel's fictional book is the truth for the first 2/3 of the novel, then reveals that it is not the case.
